Upgrading Netherite Gear with Smithing in Advanced Netherite

guide

Upgrading Netherite armor and tools through Smithing Transform introduces four distinct tiers reinforced with vanilla minerals. Advanced Netherite expands the endgame equipment hierarchy by fusing netherite ingots with iron, gold, emerald, and diamond. Each successive tier enhances item durability, increases mining speeds, and unlocks unique mob-pacifying abilities.

The Ingot Crafting Progression

Ascending through the mod requires crafting four composite alloy ingots in a strict sequence. Each recipe combines 1 ingot from the preceding tier with 4 units of the next vanilla mineral in a shapeless crafting layout:

  • Netherite-Iron Ingot: Combine 1 Netherite Ingot and 4 Iron Ingots to craft 1 Netherite-Iron Ingot.
  • Netherite-Gold Ingot: Combine 1 Netherite-Iron Ingot and 4 Gold Ingots to craft 1 Netherite-Gold Ingot.
  • Netherite-Emerald Ingot: Combine 1 Netherite-Gold Ingot and 4 Emeralds to craft 1 Netherite-Emerald Ingot.
  • Netherite-Diamond Ingot: Combine 1 Netherite-Emerald Ingot and 4 Diamonds to craft 1 Netherite-Diamond Ingot.

These ingots cannot be skipped; reaching Netherite-Diamond gear requires climbing every prior stage from iron up through emerald.

Smithing Transform Requirements and Recipes

All tool and armor upgrades take place on a Smithing Table. Every operation requires three inputs: a Smithing Template (the vanilla Netherite Upgrade Smithing Template), the piece of equipment being upgraded, and 1 ingot of the target tier.

Upgrading armor and tools follows four tiered stages:

  • Iron Tier: Combine 1 Smithing Template, 1 Netherite equipment piece, and 1 Netherite-Iron Ingot. This produces Netherite-Iron helmets, chestplates, leggings, boots, swords, pickaxes, axes, shovels, and hoes.
  • Gold Tier: Combine 1 Smithing Template, 1 Netherite-Iron equipment piece, and 1 Netherite-Gold Ingot to forge Netherite-Gold gear.
  • Emerald Tier: Combine 1 Smithing Template, 1 Netherite-Gold equipment piece, and 1 Netherite-Emerald Ingot to forge Netherite-Emerald gear.
  • Diamond Tier: Combine 1 Smithing Template, 1 Netherite-Emerald equipment piece, and 1 Netherite-Diamond Ingot to forge top-tier Netherite-Diamond gear.

Because the recipe uses the standard smithing transformation, existing enchantments, custom names, and durability states on the base item carry over seamlessly into the upgraded gear.

Tiered Armor Passive Abilities

Wearing a full suit of armor from a specific tier grants passive behavioral effects against certain hostile and neutral monsters:

  • Netherite-Iron Armor: Wearing this armor pacifies Phantoms, preventing nocturnal aerial phantoms from attacking restless players.
  • Netherite-Gold Armor: Wearing this armor pacifies Piglins throughout the Nether, functioning as high-durability gold armor that prevents piglin aggression.
  • Netherite-Emerald Armor: Wearing this armor pacifies Endermen, allowing players to look directly at endermen without provoking hostility.
  • Netherite-Diamond Armor: Provides the greatest base armor toughness, knockback resistance, and durability of all available sets.

Tool Perks and Extra Drop Chances

Weapons and tools in Advanced Netherite confer bonus harvesting benefits when used for their intended tasks:

  • Pickaxe Mining Perks: Mining iron ore blocks with a Netherite-Iron Pickaxe offers a chance to drop bonus Raw Iron. Mining gold ore blocks with a Netherite-Gold Pickaxe provides extra Raw Gold. Netherite-Emerald pickaxes yield bonus Emeralds from emerald ore, and Netherite-Diamond pickaxes yield bonus Diamonds from diamond ore.
  • Sword Combat Perks: Slaying Phantoms with a Netherite-Iron Sword grants extra Phantom Membranes. Slaying Piglins or Zombified Piglins with a Netherite-Gold Sword yields bonus Gold Ingots or Gold Nuggets. Slaying Endermen with a Netherite-Emerald Sword grants extra Ender Pearls.
  • Hoe Harvesting Perks: Harvesting fully grown crops such as wheat, carrots, potatoes, and beetroots with any advanced hoe grants additional crop drops.

Storage Blocks and Lodestone Utility

Surplus ingots can be compacted into decorative storage blocks. Placing 9 matching ingots in a 3x3 crafting grid produces 1 Block of Netherite-Iron, Block of Netherite-Gold, Block of Netherite-Emerald, or Block of Netherite-Diamond. Each block can be uncrafted back into 9 ingots at any time.

Furthermore, players can craft a Lodestone using advanced ingots. Surrounding 1 Netherite-Iron Ingot with 8 Chiseled Stone Bricks on a crafting table creates 1 Lodestone, providing an accessible waypoint anchor without sacrificing a pure netherite ingot.
