Peripheral Casing and Automation Detectors Guide

guide

The Peripheral Casing forms the structural foundation for all specialized ComputerCraft environmental, player, and storage interfaces. By encasing redstone circuitry inside iron reinforcement, Advanced Peripherals allows computers and automated turtles to observe, measure, and interact directly with the surrounding game world.

Crafting the Peripheral Casing Core

Every specialized automation block in the mod begins with a Peripheral Casing. Constructing the casing requires nine items arranged in a three-by-three crafting grid:

  • Four iron ingots placed in the four outer corners.
  • Four iron bars positioned in the top, bottom, left, and right edge slots.
  • One Redstone Block situated directly in the center slot.

This casing functions as the universal chassis for assembling environmental detectors, inventory controllers, and geological scanners.

Player and Environment Detectors

Monitoring players and ambient climate conditions enables sophisticated base automation:

  • Player Detector: Crafted with seven Smooth Stone blocks, one Peripheral Casing in the center, and one Redstone Block in the bottom center. Allows connected computers to detect player proximity, usernames, and distance within configured territorial radii.
  • Environment Detector: Crafted using four wool blocks in the corners, one sapling at the top, two leaves on the sides, one Peripheral Casing in the center, and one crop item at the bottom. Tracks local biome properties, current world time, moon phases, rain, and thunder status.
  • Chat Box: Crafted by placing one Peripheral Casing in the center of seven wooden logs with one gold ingot in the bottom center. Enables terminals to read server chat messages and broadcast automated administrative notices.

These sensors allow bases to automatically open security gates for authorized players, close blast doors during thunderstorms, and trigger alarm sirens when intruders approach.

Energy, Fluid, and Geological Scanners

Industrial infrastructure relies on precise resource tracking:

  • Energy Detector: Crafted with four Redstone Blocks in the corners, one Redstone Torch at the top, two Redstone Comparators on the sides, one Peripheral Casing in the center, and one gold ingot at the bottom. Measures exact energy transfer rates and storage percentages.
  • Fluid Detector: Crafted with four empty buckets in the corners, one piston at the top, two Redstone Comparators on the sides, one Peripheral Casing in the center, and one gold ingot at the bottom. Reads fluid types and millibucket volumes.
  • Geo Scanner: Crafted with four diamonds in the corners, one wired modem at the top, two Redstone Blocks on the bottom corners, one observer at the bottom center, and one Peripheral Casing in the center. Scans subsurface blocks to map valuable ore deposits.
  • Distance Detector: Crafted with four glass blocks in the corners, one diamond at the top, two Redstone Blocks, one observer, and one Peripheral Casing. Measures block line-of-sight distances.

Deploying these peripherals over power conduits and oil tanks prevents pipeline overfills and battery brownouts.

Storage Automation: Inventory Manager and NBT Storage

Connecting physical containers to computer scripts unlocks automated logistics:

  • Inventory Manager: Crafted with four iron ingots in the corners, four chests on the edges, and one Peripheral Casing in the center. Enables automated sorting, equipment swapping, and precise item routing between adjacent chests and player inventories.
  • NBT Storage: Crafted using two iron ingots, four chests, one Peripheral Casing, and two Redstone Blocks. Stores deep item data tags for specialized sorting routines.
  • Weak Automata Core: Crafted with four Redstone Blocks, one Peripheral Casing, two diamonds, one soul lantern, and one potion. Provides the foundational core for automated turtle robotics.

Integrating these peripherals with ComputerCraft scripts turns chaotic item storage into an intelligent, autonomous logistics network.
