Cooking Fish Fillets in Aquaculture 2

guide

This guide explains how to cook Raw Fish Fillet using various cooking methods. Aquaculture 2 introduces new fish that can be turned into fillets, and these fillets can then be cooked using standard Minecraft processes.

Cooking Methods for Raw Fish Fillets

You can cook Raw Fish Fillet using three distinct methods: smelting, smoking, and campfire cooking. Each method transforms the Raw Fish Fillet into a Cooked Fish Fillet.

Smelting

Smelting is a general-purpose cooking method with multiple recipes. To cook a Raw Fish Fillet through smelting, place it into a furnace. The furnace will then process the fillet into a Cooked Fish Fillet.

The smelting process has 5 known recipes. Besides cooking Raw Fish Fillet, other items can also be smelted:

  • Tin Can can be smelted to produce 7 Iron Nuggets.
  • Jellyfish can be smelted to produce a Slimeball.
  • There are also recipes that yield Gold Nugget and Iron Nugget from unknown ingredients.

Smoking

Smoking is a faster cooking method, typically used for food items. To cook a Raw Fish Fillet using smoking, place it into a smoker. This process will yield a Cooked Fish Fillet.

The smoking process has 1 known recipe, which is for cooking Raw Fish Fillet.

Campfire Cooking

Campfire cooking is a slower, more passive cooking method. To cook a Raw Fish Fillet using a campfire, place it directly onto a lit campfire. After some time, the fillet will become a Cooked Fish Fillet.

The campfire cooking process has 1 known recipe, which is for cooking Raw Fish Fillet.

Other Processing Methods

While not directly related to cooking fillets, other items from Aquaculture 2 can be processed using different methods. For example, blasting is a method often used for ores. The blasting process has 4 known recipes:

  • Tin Can can be blasted to produce 7 Iron Nuggets.
  • There are also recipes that yield Gold Nugget, Iron Nugget, and Neptunium Ingot from unknown ingredients.

One recipe, filed three times

The reason the three cooking methods produce identical results is that the mod genuinely files the same recipe in each: one campfire recipe, one smoking recipe and, among its five smelting entries, the furnace version — all of them Raw Fish Fillet into Cooked Fish Fillet.

So there is no hidden advantage to any appliance. Speed and fuel are the only differences, exactly as in vanilla.

The rest of the smelting list is not food

The other four smelting recipes are recovery rather than cooking: a Golden Fishing Rod back to a Gold Nugget, an Iron Fishing Rod to an Iron Nugget, a Tin Can to seven Iron Nuggets, and Jellyfish to a Slimeball.

That last pair is easy to miss and genuinely useful. A furnace beside your fishing spot turns junk loot into iron and slime while it cooks your catch.

Cooking at the water

Because a campfire needs no fuel and produces the same cooked fillet, the efficient setup for a long session is a campfire on the bank rather than hauling raw fillets home. Fillets stack, but cooked ones feed you on the spot.

Version parity

The cooking recipes are identical on 1.21.1 and 1.20.1 — one campfire, one smoking and five smelting entries on both lines.
