Auth Me Setup Guide: Login Methods and Account Selection

guide

Auth Me handles sign-in for Minecraft through its own interface, so you pick an account and a login method without touching the crafting grid. This guide covers the first-run choices, the sign-in flows you can select, and the basic controls for picking an account.

Choosing a Login Method

When you start the sign-in process, a screen titled Pick a login method appears. From there you select how you want to authenticate. The available paths are a Mojang option (described as legacy) and a Microsoft option.

Each method has its own settings section, and each section carries a description line explaining what it governs. One section controls how the authentication button behaves on the multiplayer screen. Another governs the behavior of the available login methods overall. A third covers the Microsoft login method specifically, and a fourth covers the offline login method.

If you use the offline path, the lastUsername entry remembers the username you used most recently, so you do not have to retype it every time.

Signing In With Microsoft

Selecting the Microsoft route opens a screen titled Login via Microsoft. The process runs in stages, and the interface reports each one as it happens:

  • checkBrowser — you are told to look at your browser.
  • browser — once the browser step is done, you are told you can close that window and come back to the game.
  • msAccessToken — the Microsoft access token is being obtained.
  • xboxAccessToken — the Xbox access token is being obtained.
  • xboxXstsToken — the Xbox XSTS token is being obtained.
  • mcAccessToken — the Minecraft access token is being obtained.
  • mcProfile — your Minecraft profile is being fetched.

If you have altered any of the Microsoft authentication settings away from their defaults, a screen titled Warning! Non-default options for Microsoft authentication appears. Its body text warns that if the change was not made by you, your account token could be exposed. You can proceed by choosing I know what I'm doing, or back out.

The Microsoft method also exposes several address fields you can configure: authorizeUrl, tokenUrl, xboxAuthUrl, xboxXstsUrl, mcAuthUrl, and mcProfileUrl, along with an OAuth2 Callback Url Port and an Interaction Prompt.

Signing In With Mojang (Legacy)

The legacy route opens a screen titled Login via Mojang (Legacy). Its description tells you to authenticate inside Minecraft and then re-validate your session.

Picking an Account

Account selection uses mouse input rather than a menu command. To choose an account, hold the Ctrl key while clicking it. Whether entries can be repositioned is governed by a Can Drag? indicator.

Some accounts cannot be used. An entry marked Unavailable can be clicked to learn more about why. Two specific failure states may appear:

  • notPurchased — the account has not purchased Minecraft.
  • timeout — the attempt ran out of time and you are asked to go back and retry.

A general failure message, generic, reports that something went wrong and asks you to return and try again.

Settings and Hotkeys

The behavior of the authentication button on the multiplayer screen, the available login methods, the Microsoft method, and the offline method are each controlled by their own settings described above.

Auth Me is operated through its interface and through hotkeys. Where an action has a hotkey, bind it yourself in the controls menu — the corresponding hotkey is not assigned for you.
