Auth Me Microsoft Login Guide: Browser Prompts, Token Steps, and Non-Default Option Warnings

guide

Auth Me handles account sign-in through its own interface, and the Microsoft route runs as a guided sequence of browser prompts and token requests rather than anything you craft or configure in-world.

Choosing a Login Method

When you open the login flow, a screen titled Pick a login method appears. From here you select how you want to authenticate. The available choices include Mojang (or legacy) and a Microsoft option. If you want to work with a particular saved account instead of adding one fresh, hold Ctrl while clicking that account to select it.

Some entries may appear greyed out or otherwise unusable. In that case the entry shows Unavailable, click to learn more, so clicking it gives you an explanation rather than starting a login.

The Microsoft Authentication Sequence

Selecting the Microsoft path opens a screen titled Login via Microsoft. The mod then moves through several stages, each with its own status message:

  • Please check your browser... — the mod is waiting on you to finish something in your browser.
  • Acquiring Microsoft access token... — the first token request is in progress.
  • Acquiring Xbox access token... — the Xbox-side token is being requested.
  • Acquiring Xbox XSTS token... — the XSTS token step is running.
  • Acquiring Minecraft access token... — the Minecraft token is being requested.
  • Fetching your Minecraft profile... — your profile details are being retrieved.

Once the browser portion is done, the mod tells you You may now close this window and return to Minecraft! — so you can shut the browser tab and go back to the game while the remaining token steps finish.

If something fails along the way, you may see one of these messages:

  • Something went wrong! Please go back and try again. — a general failure.
  • Timed out! Please go back and try again. — the attempt took too long.
  • The account has not purchased Minecraft! — the account you signed in with doesn't own the game.

In each case, return to the method selection and start the login again.

The Non-Default Options Warning

If the Microsoft authentication settings have been changed away from their defaults, a screen titled Warning! Non-default options for Microsoft authentication appears before the login proceeds. Its message explains that if you weren't the one who made the change, continuing could expose your account token, and it asks whether you still want to go ahead. To proceed you must confirm with I know what I'm doing. If you don't recognise the change, back out instead of accepting.

Several settings shape how authentication behaves. Their descriptions indicate they control the authentication button on the multiplayer screen, the available login methods, the Microsoft login method specifically, and the offline login method. The Microsoft-related settings include an OAuth2 Callback Url Port, an OAuth2 Authorization Url, an OAuth2 Access Token Url, an Xbox Authentication Url, an Xbox XSTS Authorization Url, a Minecraft Authentication Url, and a Minecraft Profile Url. There is also an Interaction Prompt setting.

For the legacy route, a screen titled Login via Mojang (Legacy) appears, with the instruction to authenticate yourself in Minecraft and re-validate your session. The offline login method keeps a Last Used Username value you can rely on.

Where a control has a hotkey rather than an on-screen button, use the corresponding hotkey and set it in the controls menu if needed.
