Using Better Third Person's Free Camera and Front View Options

guide

Better Third Person adds two focused toggles that change how the camera behaves: one keeps the free camera active while you fly with an elytra, and one removes the front-facing view from the third-person cycle. Both are controlled through the mod's interface and the corresponding hotkeys, which you assign in the controls menu.

Free Camera During Elytra Flight

The Free Camera During Elytra Flight setting decides whether the free camera stays available while you are gliding. With it enabled, you can keep using the free camera as you fly rather than having it drop back to a locked view. With it disabled, the free camera does not carry over into elytra flight.

To use it, open the mod's interface and turn on Free Camera During Elytra Flight. Once active, engage the free camera the same way you normally would, then begin gliding. The free camera remains in effect during the flight.

If you would rather have the camera behave normally while gliding, switch the setting off. Nothing else about your flight controls changes; only the free camera's availability during elytra flight is affected.

Skipping the Third-Person Front View

The Skip Third-Person Front View setting removes the front-facing angle from the third-person view cycle. When it is on, cycling through third-person views no longer lands on the front view, so you pass over that angle instead of stopping on it.

Turn on Skip Third-Person Front View in the mod's interface. After that, use the third-person view toggle as usual and the front view is skipped. Switch the setting off to bring the front view back into the cycle.

This is useful if you find the front view awkward and want to move only between the remaining third-person angles. It changes which views appear in the cycle, not how you switch between them.

Rotation and Pitch Speeds

Two settings adjust how quickly the player turns:

  • Player Rotation Speed — controls how fast the player rotates.
  • Pitch Change Speed — controls how fast the pitch changes.

Adjust either one in the mod's interface to make turning faster or slower. These affect rotation and pitch response, so tune them to match how you want the camera and player to move.

Aim Player on Interact

The Aim Player on Interact setting makes the player aim when you interact. Enable it in the mod's interface if you want the player to aim on interaction; leave it off if you do not.

Assigning Hotkeys

The mod's actions are triggered with hotkeys rather than fixed keys. To set them, open the controls menu and assign the corresponding hotkey for each action you want to use. Do not assume a default key for any action; assign your own in the controls menu, then use those hotkeys to operate the features described above.

Quick Reference

  • Free Camera During Elytra Flight — keeps the free camera usable while gliding.
  • Skip Third-Person Front View — drops the front view from the third-person cycle.
  • Player Rotation Speed — sets how fast the player rotates.
  • Pitch Change Speed — sets how fast the pitch changes.
  • Aim Player on Interact — makes the player aim when interacting.

Each of these is turned on or adjusted in the mod's interface, and each action is triggered with the hotkey you assign in the controls menu.
