How to Aim the Player on Interact in Better Third Person
Better Third Person includes a setting that lets your character turn toward whatever you are interacting with, along with several other options that shape how the camera and player behave in third-person view. This guide explains what each option does and how to operate it.
Aim Player on Interact
Aim Player on Interact makes your character face the target you are interacting with. When this is active, using an interaction causes the player to aim at the object or block in question rather than staying locked to whatever direction they were already facing.
To turn this behaviour on or off, open the mod's settings and toggle Aim Player on Interact. Because this is a toggle rather than a one-off action, you set it once and it applies whenever you interact.
Rotation Speeds
Two settings control how quickly the player's view moves when rotation is applied, including when the player aims on interact.
- Player Rotation Speed governs how fast the player turns in the horizontal direction, that is, left and right.
- Pitch Change Speed governs how fast the player's view tilts up and down.
Both are adjustable values. If turning feels too abrupt when your character aims at a target, lower the relevant speed; if it feels sluggish, raise it. The two are separate, so you can tune horizontal turning and vertical tilting independently to suit how you play.
Free Camera During Elytra Flight
Free Camera During Elytra Flight changes camera behaviour while you are gliding with an elytra. With this option enabled, the camera is freed from the player's flight orientation, letting you look around independently while the player continues along their flight path.
Toggle Free Camera During Elytra Flight in the settings to switch this behaviour on or off. It applies only during elytra flight, so it has no effect while you are walking, standing, or otherwise not gliding.
Skip Third-Person Front View
Skip Third-Person Front View affects what happens as you cycle through third-person camera positions. Normally, cycling through the views brings you around to a front-facing angle looking back at your character. With this option enabled, that front view is skipped, so you move between the remaining third-person views without stopping at the front-facing one.
Toggle Skip Third-Person Front View in the settings if you would rather not pass through the front-facing angle when switching camera positions.
Using the Hotkeys
Some of these features are operated with hotkeys rather than only through the settings screen. Where a feature has a hotkey, use the corresponding hotkey and set it in the controls menu. The controls menu is where you assign the key you prefer, so the exact key is up to you and is not fixed by the mod.
If a hotkey does not respond, check the controls menu to confirm that a key has been assigned to that action and that it does not clash with another binding.
Practical Notes
- Aim Player on Interact is a toggle, so it stays in whatever state you last set it to.
- Player Rotation Speed and Pitch Change Speed are values you can adjust at any time; changes take effect as soon as they are applied.
- Free Camera During Elytra Flight only matters while gliding.
- Skip Third-Person Front View only matters when cycling through third-person camera positions.
- Any feature that has a hotkey should be bound in the controls menu before you rely on it.
