BetterEnd Surface Biomes: Resources and Mobs Guide

guide

BetterEnd's surface biomes each offer a distinct atmosphere along with their own resources and mobs. The mod adds new biomes to the End, and every one of them has custom music, sounds and effects that make it feel alive. It also uses a custom End generator, so islands come in different shapes and heights, and caves inside them hold unique resources. This guide covers six of the surface biomes and what you can expect from each.

Shared Traits

All six biomes covered here share the same climate profile. Each one is temperate, with a temperature of 0.5, and none of them have rain. That means you will not run into weather while exploring them.

Amber Land

Amber Land is a temperate, rainless biome. Its monster spawns are enderman and end slime. If you are hunting end slimes, this is one of the places where they appear alongside the usual endermen.

Blossoming Spires

Blossoming Spires is temperate and has no rain. The only monster spawn listed for it is enderman. It is a straightforward stop if you want enderman encounters without other hostile spawns mixed in.

Chorus Forest

Chorus Forest is temperate with no rain. Its monster spawns are end slime and enderman, the same pair found in Amber Land. Like the other biomes here, it carries its own music and effects.

Crystal Mountains

Crystal Mountains is temperate and rainless. Its monster spawn is enderman. The terrain here is mountainous, which fits the custom generator's approach of giving End islands varied shapes and heights.

Lantern Woods

Lantern Woods is temperate with no rain. Its monster spawn is enderman. It is one of several biomes in this list where endermen are the sole listed hostile spawn.

Umbrella Jungle

Umbrella Jungle is temperate and has no rain. Its monster spawn is enderman. As with the other biomes, expect custom music and sounds while you explore.

Planning a Route

Because every biome here is temperate and rainless, climate is not a deciding factor when you choose where to go. The real differences come down to which mobs spawn and what the terrain looks like.

  • If you want end slime encounters, head to Amber Land or Chorus Forest, the two biomes that list end slimes.
  • If you only want enderman, Blossoming Spires, Crystal Mountains, Lantern Woods and Umbrella Jungle each list endermen alone.
  • If terrain variety matters to you, remember that the custom generator places islands at different heights and shapes, and that caves inside islands contain unique resources.

Beyond the Surface

BetterEnd as a whole adds more than 24 biomes, with more planned. It also introduces 6 new mobs, some with biome variations, along with many new blocks, including 9 wood types and 7 new stone types. New items cover food sources, tools, armor and weapons, and there are mechanics such as Infusion Rituals, Anvil Recipes and End tool progression. A configurable custom End world generator replaces the vanilla approach, and configs exist for blocks, items, mobs, enchants and more. The Central Island also gets custom structures, and the sky features purple nebulas and stars for a fresh look.

For a surface tour, start with the six biomes above. Each one is temperate and dry, each has its own soundtrack and effects, and the mob list tells you whether you will meet endermen alone or endermen alongside end slimes.
