BetterNether Forested Biomes Guide: Fungiwoods, Warped Woods, Jungles, and Mushroom Forests
This guide covers the forested biomes added by BetterNether, including the fungiwoods, warped woods, Nether jungle, and mushroom forest variants. Each of these biomes shares the same hot, rainless climate, but they differ in which creatures and monsters appear there.
Climate Across All Forested Biomes
Every biome covered here has a temperature of 2.0 and no rain. That applies equally to the Nether Jungle, Nether Mushroom Forest, Nether Mushroom Forest Edge, Old Fungiwoods, Old Warped Woods, and the Upside Down Forest. If you are planning a base or a farm, expect dry heat rather than weather.
Nether Jungle
The Nether Jungle is a hot, rainless biome. Its monster spawns are the skull, the naga, and the jungle skeleton. No creature spawns are listed for this biome, so the danger here comes entirely from hostile mobs.
Nether Mushroom Forest
The Nether Mushroom Forest shares the same hot, rainless climate. Monster spawns include the ghast, zombified piglin, magma cube, skull, enderman, and piglin. It also has a creature spawn: the strider. This makes it one of the busier biomes in terms of mob variety, mixing hostile monsters with passive striders.
Nether Mushroom Forest Edge
The Nether Mushroom Forest Edge has the same climate as the main mushroom forest. Its monster spawns are identical: ghast, zombified piglin, magma cube, skull, enderman, and piglin. The strider also appears here as a creature spawn. Treat the edge much like the forest itself when judging what you might run into.
Old Fungiwoods
The Old Fungiwoods is hot and rainless. Monster spawns are the ghast, zombified piglin, magma cube, skull, enderman, and piglin. The strider is the creature spawn for this biome. The mob list matches the mushroom forest biomes exactly.
Old Warped Woods
The Old Warped Woods follows the same hot, rainless climate. Its monster spawns are the skull, enderman, and naga. The strider appears as a creature spawn. Note that this biome's hostile list is shorter and different from the fungiwoods and mushroom forests — there are no ghasts, zombified piglins, magma cubes, or piglins listed here.
Upside Down Forest
The Upside Down Forest is hot with no rain. Monster spawns are the ghast, zombified piglin, magma cube, skull, enderman, and piglin. The strider is listed as a creature spawn. Its spawn table matches the mushroom forests and the Old Fungiwoods.
Comparing the Biome Spawns
A few patterns are worth remembering when you travel between these biomes.
- The Nether Jungle is the odd one out: it spawns the naga and jungle skeleton, and it has no listed creature spawns.
- The Old Warped Woods also spawns the naga, alongside the skull and enderman, and it has no ghasts, zombified piglins, magma cubes, or piglins.
- The Nether Mushroom Forest, Nether Mushroom Forest Edge, Old Fungiwoods, and Upside Down Forest all share the same monster list: ghast, zombified piglin, magma cube, skull, enderman, and piglin.
- Every biome except the Nether Jungle lists the strider as a creature spawn.
Practical Notes
Because all six biomes are hot and rainless, the climate itself will not help you tell them apart. Use the mobs instead. If you see a naga or a jungle skeleton, you are likely in the Nether Jungle or the Old Warped Woods. If you see ghasts, magma cubes, or piglins alongside striders, you are probably in a mushroom forest, the Old Fungiwoods, or the Upside Down Forest.
