Overworld Biomes in Biomes O' Plenty

guide

Biomes O' Plenty introduces many distinct biomes to the Overworld, each with specific characteristics regarding climate and creature inhabitants.

Temperate Biomes

Several biomes feature a temperate climate, typically allowing for a diverse range of life. Common monster spawns across these temperate biomes include spider, zombie, zombie villager, skeleton, creeper, and slime.

Woodland

The Woodland biome has a temperate climate with a temperature of 0.8. In addition to the common monsters, you can find sheep, pig, chicken, and cow here.

Dune Beach

The Dune Beach biome is also temperate, with a temperature of 0.7. This biome shares the same monster spawns as other temperate areas.

Mediterranean Forest

The Mediterranean Forest biome features a temperate climate with a temperature of 0.8. Like the Woodland, it hosts sheep, pig, chicken, and cow, alongside the standard temperate monsters.

Rocky Shrubland

The Rocky Shrubland has a temperate climate with a temperature of 0.6. This biome is home to sheep, pig, chicken, cow, and llama, in addition to the common monster types.

Marsh

The Marsh biome is temperate with a temperature of 0.65. Here, you will find pig and chicken, along with the typical temperate monsters.

Hot Biomes

Certain biomes have a hot climate, often leading to unique environmental conditions and different types of creatures.

Withered Abyss

The Withered Abyss biome is characterized by a hot climate with a temperature of 2.0 and no rain. This biome features distinct monster spawns: enderman and wither skeleton.

The scale of what is being added

Biomes O' Plenty is a worldgen mod first and a content mod second, and the numbers show it: 460 pages, 365 blocks, 95 items and no structures whatsoever. Nothing here is gated behind a boss or a dungeon — every material in the mod is simply lying in a biome somewhere, waiting to be found.

That makes the exploration loop unusually flat. There is no progression to respect and no order you have to visit things in; the constraint is only how far you are willing to travel.

Twelve woods, and where they sit

The mod adds twelve wood types — dead, empyreal, fir, hellbark, jacaranda, magic, mahogany, maple, palm, pine, redwood and umbran — each tied to the biomes it grows in. Since these are the most useful thing most players take home, treating a biome survey as a wood survey is a reasonable strategy: note which species grows where, and collect saplings rather than logs.

Stone families

Alongside the woods are three coloured sandstones — black, orange and white — each with cut, chiseled and smooth variants, plus the brimstone family for the hotter biomes. Smelting is the route to the smooth versions, and the stonecutter handles slabs, stairs and walls, which is why 39 of the mod's recipes live there.
