Overworld Hot, Dry, and Volcanic Biomes

guide

This guide describes hot, dry, and volcanic biomes found in the Overworld. These biomes have distinct characteristics, including temperature, rainfall, and the types of creatures and monsters that inhabit them.

Hot and Dry Biomes

Several biomes feature hot temperatures and no rainfall. These areas can present unique challenges and opportunities.

Wasteland Steppe

The Wasteland Steppe is a hot biome with a temperature of 2.0 and receives no rain. Monsters that may appear here include spider, zombie, zombie villager, skeleton, creeper, and slime.

Undergrowth

The Undergrowth is another hot biome, also with a temperature of 2.0 and no rain. This biome is home to different types of monsters such as ghast, magma cube, and hoglin. Strider creatures can also be found here.

Erupting Inferno

The Erupting Inferno is a hot biome, maintaining a temperature of 2.0 with no rain. This area features ghast, magma cube, zombified piglin, piglin, and enderman as monsters. Strider creatures also spawn in this biome.

Other Hot Biomes

Other hot biomes in the Overworld may receive rainfall and host a wider variety of life.

Rainforest

The Rainforest is a hot biome with a temperature of 1.2. In this biome, you might encounter monsters like spider, zombie, zombie villager, skeleton, creeper, and slime. Creatures such as chicken, pig, and parrot can also be found.

Bayou

The Bayou is a hot biome with a temperature of 0.95. The monsters present here are spider, zombie, zombie villager, skeleton, creeper, and slime. Pig and frog creatures also inhabit the Bayou.

Lush Savanna

The Lush Savanna is a hot biome with a temperature of 0.9. Monsters that appear in this biome include spider, zombie, zombie villager, skeleton, creeper, and slime. A variety of creatures, such as sheep, pig, chicken, cow, horse, and donkey, can be found here.

Brimstone and the volcanic palette

The hot and volcanic biomes carry the mod's most distinctive stone. Brimstone is the base block, and it cuts directly into Brimstone Bricks along with brick slabs, stairs and walls — the stonecutter takes brimstone or its brick form as input for the same outputs, so you never need to craft an intermediate.

Vanilla blackstone gains an entry here too: one blackstone cuts into four Blackstone Spines, a decorative block with no vanilla equivalent, which makes the stonecutter worth carrying into these biomes rather than hauling raw stone home.

Desert colours

The three coloured sandstones are the other reason to visit the dry biomes. Black Sandstone, Orange Sandstone and White Sandstone each come with cut and chiseled variants, and smelting any of them produces the smooth version — four of the mod's mere handful of smelting recipes are exactly this.

Between three sandstone colours, their cut, chiseled and smooth forms, and the stonecutter's slab and stair entries, one desert trip supplies a complete three-tone building set.

Heat is the only hazard

There are no structures and no bosses in these biomes, so the risk is environmental rather than combat: lava, distance from a bed, and the usual desert exposure. Pack for the walk rather than for a fight.
