Blood Magic: Altar, Alchemy Table and the Arc
Blood Magic runs on life essence spent at a handful of dedicated blocks. This guide covers where its 700-plus recipes actually live and which blocks matter first.
The four benches that carry the mod
- Alchemy Table — 128 recipes, the largest specialised category
- Stonecutting — 125, for the block palette
- Arc — 96 recipes
- Hellfire Forge — 89 recipes
- Crafting — 155, ordinary bench work
Between the alchemy table, the arc and the hellfire forge sit 313 recipes. Those three blocks are the mod, and the ordinary crafting list mostly exists to build them.
The Blood Altar is smaller than you expect
23 recipes. For the block the mod is named after, that is a short list — the altar is a gateway rather than a workhorse. It converts a modest set of items using life essence, and everything downstream happens elsewhere.
Build it early anyway, because those 23 recipes gate the rest.
Flasks are a system of their own
Seven categories handle potion flasks, and together they total 110 recipes:
- Potion Length — 46 recipes, and Potion Potency — 32
- Potion Effect — 14, Potion Transform — 13
- Potion Fill and Flask Transform — 2 each, Potion Cycle — 1
Length and potency dominating means most of the flask system is about tuning a potion you already have rather than creating new ones. That is a different design from vanilla brewing, where duration and strength are single steps.
Arrays are cheap and varied
The Array category holds 26 recipes and is drawn with arcane ashes, which are themselves made at the alchemy table. Arrays do small, specific jobs: some throw entities in a direction, one damages anything that steps into it, and a pair changes the time of day, consuming their components as they work.
Crafting arrays are the important type — they inscribe one item onto a catalyst and turn both into something new.
Meteors and downgrades
Two small categories are worth knowing exist: Meteor with 6 recipes, and Living Downgrade with 9. The second is the counterweight to the mod's armour upgrades, and its presence tells you upgrades are not free.
This line is 1.20.1 only
The build is 3.3.8-50 on Forge for 1.20.1. There is no 1.21.1 release, so a pack on the newer line cannot include it.
Scale
432 pages across 220 items and 212 blocks, with no worldgen structures — everything here is built rather than found.
