Blur+ Settings and Accessibility Options Explained
Blur+ is a Minecraft utility mod that controls where and how background blur and gradient effects appear, and it is configured entirely through its own interface and hotkeys rather than through crafting. The sections below cover the main toggles, the timing and color options, and the two debug-style tools: the accessibility tooltip and the screen ID overlay.
Choosing Which Screens Get Blurred
Blur+ lets you decide, screen by screen, where the blur effect applies. Each of the following options is a simple on-or-off choice:
- blurContainers — controls whether containers receive the blur effect.
- blurBooks — controls whether books receive the blur effect.
- blurCommandBlocks — controls whether command blocks receive the blur effect.
- blurDeathScreen — controls whether the death screen receives the blur effect.
- blurSigns — controls whether signs receive the blur effect.
- blurTitleScreen — controls whether the title screen receives the blur effect.
Two broader options adjust the effect across whole categories of screens:
- reduceInGameBlur — lowers the amount of blur applied on in-game screens.
- darkenTitleScreen — darkens the background of the title screen.
Timing and Animation
The blur does not have to appear or disappear instantly. These settings control how it moves:
- fadeTimeMillis — sets the fade time, measured in milliseconds.
- fadeOutTimeMillis — sets the fade-out time, also measured in milliseconds.
- blurAnimationCurve — determines the curve used for the blur animation.
- backgroundAnimationCurve — determines the curve used for the background gradient animation.
Background Gradient
Instead of relying only on blur, you can use a gradient as the background:
- useGradient — turns the gradient background on or off.
- gradientStart — sets the gradient's starting color.
- gradientEnd — sets the gradient's ending color.
- gradientStartAlpha — sets the transparency of the gradient's starting color.
- gradientEndAlpha — sets the transparency of the gradient's ending color.
The Accessibility Tooltip
One option in Blur+ carries a tooltip explaining that it mirrors the Menu Background Blur setting found in Minecraft's own Accessibility Settings. In other words, this control in Blur+ reflects the same menu background blur behavior that the game's accessibility options expose. If you are already familiar with that accessibility setting, this option gives you the same kind of control from within Blur+.
The Screen ID Debug Overlay
Blur+ includes a diagnostic overlay that displays the current screen's ID in the top-left corner of the game window. This is useful when you need to identify a screen so you can reference it elsewhere in the mod's settings. Use it to look up screen IDs and then add those IDs to the fields described below.
Forcing Blur On or Off for Specific Screens
Two list-style settings let you override the normal behavior for individual screens, using the IDs you found with the overlay:
- forceEnabledScreens — a list of screens where the vanilla blur effect should be forced on.
- forceDisabledScreens — a list of screens where the vanilla blur effect should be forced off.
A related list setting, with a tooltip describing it as screens that Blur+ should not animate, excludes chosen screens from animation entirely.
Operating These Features
All of the options above are adjusted through the mod's interface. Where a feature is bound to a hotkey, use the corresponding hotkey and set it in the controls menu if you want to change it. The screen ID overlay is the key helper here: turn it on, note the ID shown in the top-left corner of the window, then enter that ID into forceEnabledScreens or forceDisabledScreens depending on whether you want the vanilla blur forced on or off for that screen.
