Dragon Whistle, Rattle-Staff, and Viking Anvil

guide

The Dragon Whistle and Rattle-Staff provide precision control over tamed dragon flights, while the Viking Anvil offers heavy iron smithing utility. Navigating survival skies with massive winged mounts requires dedicated command tools to ensure your dragons follow, stay, or engage targets on cue.

Crafting and Binding the Dragon Whistle

The Dragon Whistle allows riders to signal a specific dragon companion across long distances. Assembling the whistle requires three items placed diagonally across a crafting grid:

  • Two mob bones placed in the top left and center slots.
  • One iron nugget placed in the bottom right corner.

Operating the Dragon Whistle uses straightforward controls:

  • Binding: Right-click directly onto a tamed dragon while holding the whistle to permanently link the instrument to that specific beast.
  • Signaling: Right-clicking with a bound whistle issues immediate recall or positioning signals to your mount.
  • Unbinding: Shift-right-click into open air with the whistle to clear its bound link, allowing you to reassign the tool to another dragon.

Keeping dedicated whistles for each mount prevents confusion when managing large multi-dragon roosts.

Assembling the Rattle-Staff for Dragon Commands

While whistles control individual dragons, the Rattle-Staff commands all owned dragons simultaneously within your immediate area. Constructing the Rattle-Staff requires one Iron Ingot, three Bones, three Sticks, and one Iron Nugget arranged in a crafting table:

  • Top row: Iron Ingot, Bone, Stick.
  • Middle row: Bone, Iron Nugget, Stick.
  • Bottom row: Empty left slot, Bone, Stick.

Holding Shift while examining the Rattle-Staff in your inventory reveals its complete command control instructions. Waving the staff directs your entire flock to land, take flight, or guard specific territorial perimeter lines around your base.

Constructing the Viking Anvil

Heavy metalworking and dragon equipment maintenance rely on the Viking Anvil workstation. Constructing a Viking Anvil requires five heavy components arranged on a crafting grid:

  • Top row: One Block of Iron placed in the top center slot.
  • Middle row: One Iron Ingot placed in the middle center slot.
  • Bottom row: Three wooden logs spanning across the bottom row.

The Viking Anvil provides the traditional Norse blacksmithing workstation needed to shape heavy metal fittings, tool components, and dragon tack.

Roost Maps and Expedition Gear

Tracking wild dragons across vast terrain requires utilizing specialized roost maps discovered during exploration:

  • Barrens Roost Map: Directs explorers toward desolate badlands roosts.
  • Cave Roost Map: Charts paths toward underground cavern caverns inhabited by subterranean dragons like the Whispering Death.
  • Cliff Roost Map: Reveals high mountainous crags favored by alpine flyers.
  • Glade Roost Map: Points toward temperate forest meadows where Deadly Nadders nest.
  • Wetland Roost Map: Leads into swampy deltas and bayous.

Combining roost maps with bound whistles ensures successful expeditions into wild dragon territory.
