Navigating the Nether Gauntlet
The Nether Gauntlet is one of the four main bosses added by the "Bosses of Mass Destruction" mod. This guide explains how to find and approach its challenge.
Locating the Gauntlet
The Nether Gauntlet is found within a specific structure, identified as gauntlet_arena. These structures generate rarely in the Nether. To find a Nether Gauntlet structure, you must explore the Nether dimension.
The mod attempts to place one of these structures within each 32x32 chunk region. However, a minimum distance of 16 chunks is maintained between any two Nether Gauntlet structures. This ensures that the arenas are spread out across the Nether.
Preparing for the Challenge
Inside the gauntlet_arena structure, the normal rules for monster mob spawning are overridden. This means that the environment within the arena will have a unique set of challenges related to the Gauntlet boss.
Earthdive Spear Utility
The
Earthdive Spear is an item that can assist with movement. It allows for short-range teleportation through solid blocks. This ability could be useful for traversing the terrain within the Nether Gauntlet arena or for repositioning during combat encounters.
How the arena generates
The Gauntlet Arena is placed at spacing 32 with a separation of 16, and unlike the mod's other three structures it generates as underground decoration rather than as a surface structure. That combination makes it the most common of the four and the only one you are likely to meet while caving rather than while travelling.
For comparison, the Lich Tower sits at spacing 100 — the gauntlet is roughly three times as dense.
The spear is the reward
The
Earthdive Spear is crafted from an
Obsidian Heart, a
Void Thorn and a
Stick, and what it does is unusual enough to change how you fight: it grants a short-range teleport through solid blocks.
That makes it a traversal tool as much as a weapon. In an arena fight it is an escape; in the Nether generally it is a way through walls you would otherwise have to mine.
Resetting the fight
If you clear an arena and want it again,
Brimstone Nectar —
Netherite Scrap,
Dragon's Breath and a
Ghast Tear — resets nearby boss structures on use. That is the mod's answer to one-shot bosses, and it is worth crafting before you need it rather than after.
Preparing
The mod adds only seven crafting recipes and no armour of its own, so you arrive in whatever your pack has given you.
Crystal Fruit grants brief regeneration and resistance, which is the closest thing to a combat consumable here.
