Transmuting and Duplicating Materials with Mana in Botania

Mana is a deeply unpredictable substance, and even after extensive study its full range of properties and capabilities remains unknown. What has been established, however, is that two specialized catalysts allow a Mana Pool to reshape and multiply materials. An Alchemy Catalyst, assembled from a variety of otherworldly materials, is attached to the underside of a Mana Pool to enable Alchemy. A second catalyst serves Conjuration, which produces copies of basic resources. Both processes work the same way at the pool: throw the relevant item in while the appropriate catalyst is fixed below.

Alchemy with the Alchemy Catalyst

Alchemy covers a broad set of conversions. Once the Alchemy Catalyst is attached beneath a Mana Pool, the pool can carry out the following transformations:

Rotten Flesh into Leather
Transmuting woods
Transmuting saplings
Transmuting froglights
Breaking down Glowstone Blocks
Breaking down Quartz Blocks
Creating Chiseled Stone Bricks
Compressing Snow into Ice
Converting between Vines and Lilypads

The catalyst itself must be created before any of this is possible. The exact ingredients for the Alchemy Catalyst are not detailed here, but the entry notes it is made from a variety of otherworldly materials.

Conjuration with the Conjuration Catalyst

Conjuration mirrors Alchemy in setup and execution. A Conjuration Catalyst is attached below a Mana Pool, and items tossed into the pool are cloned rather than converted. The magic involved produces duplicates of simple resources. The known conjurations are:

Separate from the two catalysts, smelting handles a small set of conversions. There are 9 smelting recipes in total. Examples include:

Crafting is the largest category, with 766 recipes. The specific recipes are not listed here.

Putting It Together

To use either catalyst, place it on the bottom of a Mana Pool, then toss the input item into the pool. Alchemy transforms the item into something else, while Conjuration produces copies of the item. The Alchemy Catalyst and Conjuration Catalyst are both required for their respective processes, and each must be crafted before use. Smelting, stonecutting, and crafting provide additional ways to process materials outside of the Mana Pool.
