Tuning Bridging Mod Distances, Snapping, and Placement Rules
Bridging Mod changes how you place blocks while moving, letting you build off blocks that are behind or beside you rather than directly under your crosshair. Its settings live in a config interface, and the main on/off control is also tied to a keybind you can find in the Controls menu. If the config screen refuses to open, you may see a notice explaining that the interface failed to load and that snapshot builds should not be reported as bugs.
Core Toggles
Toggle Reacharound Placement is the master switch for the mod's signature behaviour. Turning it off disables most of what the mod does, so treat it as the primary on/off control. A separate keybind (listed in Controls, defaulting to the comma key) does the same job, letting you flip the feature without opening any menu.
Only Bridge While Crouching restricts the mod so it only activates when you are sneaking. This works alongside the toggle keybind, since both change when bridging is available to you.
Distance Settings
Three sliders decide how far away a block can be and still count as a valid bridging target:
- Minimum Bridging Distance sets the overall minimum gap between you and a block before it can be bridged from.
- Minimum Horizontal Distance applies that same idea along the horizontal plane only.
- Minimum Vertical Distance applies it vertically instead.
Timing and Axes
Post-Bridging Delay controls how many ticks must pass before another block can be bridged. Twenty ticks equal one second. A value of 3 is more forgiving, while 4 matches unmodded behaviour. Lower values let you place faster while holding your place button.
Bridging Axis limits bridging to particular directions, useful if you want horizontal-only placement. Bridging Axis While Crouching overrides that limit whenever you sneak; its "Same as Usual" option simply mirrors whatever the main axis setting is.
Placement Assistance
Align Bridged Slabs makes slabs and trapdoors behave more sensibly: they line up with your level during horizontal bridging and stack together during vertical bridging.
Skip Torch Bridging stops torches from being placed through the mod at all, avoiding accidental torch drops.
Replace Non-Solid Blocks lets bridging swap out replaceable blocks such as tall grass and water.
Snapping
Bridging Snap Strength is marked experimental and can behave oddly on close edges. It scales the hitbox used for bridging; smaller numbers mean less sensitivity. A value of 1.0 gives standard, strong snapping, 0.8 is described as a sweet spot with lighter snapping plus some support, and 0.0 restores the older strict snapping.
Bridging Adjacency fine-tunes snapping by catching blocks along your view path that the normal target finder overlooks. Strict picks only the closest match to your view line, while Faces also includes blocks sharing a face with that closest match.
Visual Feedback
Show Bridging Crosshair draws arrows near your crosshair while bridging is active, hinting at the direction your block will come from. Show Bridging Block Outline highlights the exact spot a block will be placed. Show Non-Bridging Block Outline does the same for ordinary placement, and its companion option makes that highlight obey the crouch rule, so it only appears when bridging is actually available. Bridging Outline Colour sets the colour for both outlines, with an opacity around 0.4 suggested unless you prefer vivid results.
Two debug options mirror the outline features while the F3 overlay is open, and Show Bridging Block Trail In F3 lightly marks every position the mod checked and passed over while hunting for a target.
