Bridging Mod Setup Guide: Config UI, Toggle Keybind, and Reacharound Placement

guide

Bridging Mod changes how block placement works at the edges of what you can reach, and this guide covers getting it running and understanding its core controls.

Opening the Config UI

The mod is configured entirely through its own interface rather than through crafting or an in-game item. Open that config UI to reach every setting. If it refuses to open, you will see a message titled Config UI Disabled! explaining that the interface failed to launch. That message also notes that on a snapshot build, this should not be filed as a bug.

Inside the config UI, settings are grouped under headings with short descriptions: one group for the mod's main parts, one for indicator appearance, one for small optional tweaks, one for developer-oriented features that regular players may still like, and one for everything else.

The Basic Toggle and Reacharound Placement

The central mechanic is Reacharound Placement. Turning it on or off is done with the Toggle Reacharound Placement action, and the game confirms the change with a Toggled Reacharound Placement message. This same action is also available as a keybind in the Controls menu, where it comes assigned to the apostrophe key by default. If you rebind it, use whatever key you chose there.

The mod's main on/off question is whether bedrock-style bridging should be active at all. Answering no effectively disables most of the mod, so treat this as the master switch. Reacharound Placement is the name for the behaviour itself, and it works in a manner comparable to Quark's version of the idea.

Distance Rules

Three settings decide when a block counts as reachable for bridging:

  • Minimum Bridging Distance — the overall distance a block must be from you.
  • Minimum Horizontal Distance — the sideways distance a block must be from you.
  • Minimum Vertical Distance — the up-or-down distance a block must be from you.

Crouch and Axis Options

Only Bridge While Crouching restricts bridging to moments when you are sneaking. It behaves similarly to the toggle keybind in that it changes when bridging is available to you.

There is also an axis setting that limits bridging to particular directions, useful if you want horizontal-only bridging like bedrock edition. A separate crouch-specific axis option overrides the main one while you are sneaking; its Same as Usual choice simply mirrors whatever the main axis setting is.

Timing

Post-Bridging Delay controls how many ticks must elapse before the next block can be bridged, measured at twenty ticks per second. This directly affects how quickly you can build while holding your place button. A value of 3 is described as easier to bridge with, while 4 matches vanilla behaviour.

Placement Position and Snapping

One setting determines whether placement positions follow your current camera perspective, including third person, or always follow the player head's view line. If you use a free look or better third person mod and dislike the default result, this is the setting to change.

Bridging Snap Strength is marked experimental and noted as behaving oddly on close-up edges. It resizes the hitbox used during bridging, where lower values mean less sensitivity. A value of 1.0 gives standard, strong snapping; 0.8 is called the sweet spot with weaker snapping plus some support; 0.0 is the old strict snapping.

Bridging Adjacency fine-tunes snapping by locating blocks along the view path that the normal target finder misses. Strict takes only the closest match to the view line, while Faces also includes blocks that share a face with that closest match.
