Deploying Fire Extinguishers and Smoke Detectors in Burnt

guide

Crafting a smoke detector with redstone torches and a sculk sensor provides automated fire detection for vulnerable timber structures. In the Burnt mod, fire spreads dynamically across wooden roofs and interior floors, making automated early warning and firefighting tools essential for base protection.

Crafting and Wiring the Smoke Detector

The smoke detector acts as an early warning sensor that monitors surrounding blocks for active flames and combustion.

To craft 1 Smoke Detector, place the following components into a crafting table:

  • 1 Redstone Torch in the top-center slot
  • 1 Redstone Torch in the middle-left slot
  • 1 Sculk Sensor in the center slot
  • 1 Redstone Torch in the middle-right slot
  • 3 Stone blocks across the bottom row

When placed onto a ceiling or wall, the smoke detector remains in an idle unpowered state. The block continuously scans surrounding coordinates for active fire. When flames ignite nearby, the detector immediately switches into its powered state, illuminating its indicator lamp and transmitting a redstone signal to adjacent blocks.

Engineers can connect redstone dust lines from the smoke detector to trigger audible note block sirens, activate redstone lamps, or switch off flammable kinetic systems when a fire breaks out.

Crafting and Operating the Fire Extinguisher

When fire breaks out, standard water buckets often cause catastrophic flooding that washes away redstone wiring and torches. The Fire Extinguisher offers targeted flame suppression without water damage.

To craft 1 Fire Extinguisher, stack materials vertically in a crafting table:

  • 1 Block of Redstone in the top slot
  • 1 Water Bucket in the center slot
  • 1 Block of Iron in the bottom slot

Holding the fire extinguisher and holding right-click releases a pressurized stream of extinguishing foam projectiles. The spray douses open flames on contact, suppresses spreading embers, and cools smoldering timber before blocks can burn down completely.

Fire extinguishers can also be obtained as rare salvage from fishing loot, allowing players to discover emergency safety equipment before establishing full iron and redstone mining operations.

Automating Fire Suppression with Dispensers

For hands-free facility defense, fire extinguishers can be integrated directly into automated suppression networks.

Placing a fire extinguisher inside a vanilla dispenser allows the dispenser to operate the extinguisher mechanically. When the dispenser receives a redstone pulse from an overhead smoke detector, it triggers the extinguisher through its dispenser behavior, projecting a cone of extinguishing spray over the threatened area below. Installing automated dispenser nozzles along timber warehouse ceilings protects valuable wooden storage areas against lightning strikes and stray embers.
