Using Metal Tables, Hacksaws, Hammers, Blood Grates, and Skin Racks in Butchery
Metal Butchers Table
The metal butchers table serves the same core purpose as its wooden counterpart: it gives you a surface to lay a drained carcass on for further processing. However, you are not locked into using this block. Butchering a carcass can happen without any table at all, so the metal version is an optional convenience rather than a strict requirement. If you do use it, the workflow matches what you already know from wooden tables—place the drained body on top and proceed with your tools.
Hacksaws for Tough Mobs
Standard cleavers will fail against certain resilient creatures, such as Iron Golems. For these tougher targets, you need a hacksaw. The hacksaw operates in the same manner as a cleaver does for ordinary mobs: approach the carcass and right-click it with the hacksaw equipped. This action begins the butchering process for those hard-to-cut bodies that a cleaver simply cannot handle. Keep a hacksaw on hand whenever you expect to process golems or similarly armored foes.
Hammers for Shelled Creatures
Some mobs possess tough outer shells that resist cleavers entirely. Hammers are the answer here. By striking with sufficient force, a hammer can break through these protective layers. For specific creatures like turtles and shulkers, you do not need to swing repeatedly—simply right-click the carcass while holding a hammer, and the shell will come off. This makes hammers essential for any butcher who deals with shelled prey.
Blood Grate and Blood Collection
To capture blood from a bleeding carcass, you need a blood grate. Position this block directly underneath the hanging carcass so that the drips land on it. The grate will then collect the blood for you. A notable feature is its compatibility with blood types from other mods. To switch the grate’s accepted blood type, you must craft a set of butchers papers. With those papers in hand, interact with the blood grate by right-clicking it. Each click cycles the grate through the different supported blood varieties until you find the one you need.
Butchers Papers
The butchers papers are a dedicated tool for adjusting your blood grate. Their only job is to change which kind of blood the grate collects. To use them, hold the papers and right-click the grate. This action moves the grate to the next supported blood type in the cycle. Repeat as needed until the grate matches the blood you intend to gather.
Skin Rack for Leather Production
The skin rack turns raw animal skins into usable leather through a multi-step curing process. First, take a mob skin and right-click the rack while holding it to hang the skin on the rack. Next, you must dampen the skin. Use a wet sponge, a rag, or a bottle of water to apply moisture to the hanging skin. After the skin is wet, right-click it while holding salt to season it. Once salted, you wait for the skin to cure over time. When the curing finishes, the skin converts into leather, ready for crafting or other uses. Follow these steps in order, and the rack will handle the rest.
