How to Open the Cave Dust Interface and Control Its Particles
Cave Dust is controlled entirely through its on-screen interface and hotkeys, so there is nothing to craft and no items to place. This guide explains how to open the interface, switch cave dust particles on or off, and cycle through the available particle types.
Opening the Cave Dust Interface
The mod's settings live in its own interface, which you reach with a hotkey rather than a menu inside the world. Use the corresponding hotkey (set it in the controls menu) to open the Cave Dust interface. Once it is open, you can review and change every setting described below. Close it the same way you opened it, or through the usual interface controls.
Toggling Particles On or Off
Cave Dust reports its current state directly in the interface. You will see either Cave Dust: Enabled or Cave Dust: Disabled, so you always know where things stand before you change anything.
The toggle itself appears as a question: Enable cave dust particles? or Disable cave dust particles? — whichever one is shown depends on the current state, and selecting it flips the mod between on and off. When particles are active, the interface confirms this with a (Cave Dust) Enabled particles message. When they are switched off, it shows (Cave Dust) Disabled particles.
If you change your settings and want them applied again from scratch, use (Cave Dust) Reloaded config, which reloads the configuration.
Cycling the Particle Type
The particle type is chosen with a dedicated control labelled Particle to spawn. Click to cycle. Clicking it steps through the available particle types one at a time, so repeated clicks move you through the full list and eventually back around. If the mod ever fails to apply a particle, it reports (Cave Dust) Error setting particle, skipping to next particle! and moves on to the next one instead of stopping.
Adjusting How Particles Spawn
Several settings shape where and how much dust appears:
- Maximum width to spawn particle — sets the greatest width at which particles can spawn.
- Maximum height to spawn particle — sets the greatest height at which particles can spawn.
- Upper limit height: — the height at which particles fade out and stop spawning. This is measured against your own y position.
- Lower limit height: — the height at which particles spawn most heavily, also measured against your y position.
- Particle multiplier: — multiplies the number of particles. The related Multiplies particle amount tooltip confirms this behaviour.
- Velocity randomness: — controls how random the velocity of the particles is. The Amount of particles to spawn at any given depth tooltip describes how many particles appear at a given depth.
- Enhanced detection: Enabled or Enhanced detection: Disabled — when enabled, detection checks are more accurate because they use the particle's position rather than the player's, though this comes with some performance cost.
- Superflat particles: Enabled or Superflat particles: Disabled — determines whether particles are allowed to spawn in superflat worlds.
- Are you sure you want to reset all settings? — a confirmation prompt that resets every setting back to its defaults.
Practical Tips
Check the Cave Dust: Enabled or Cave Dust: Disabled line first whenever particles seem to be missing, since it tells you immediately whether the mod is active. If you want more or fewer particles without changing anything else, adjust Particle multiplier:. If performance drops after turning on Enhanced detection: Enabled, switching it back to disabled reduces the load. When particles stop appearing at certain depths, review Upper limit height: and Lower limit height: together, as these two values define where spawning is strongest and where it fades out.
