Chloride Mod Guide: Fullscreen, FPS Overlay, Fog, Sky, and Visual Tweaks
Chloride is configured entirely through its settings interface and hotkeys, giving you control over display modes, on-screen performance readouts, fog and sky behavior, and a range of visual optimizations. Below is how each option works and what it changes.
Display Modes and Window Behavior
The display mode setting offers three choices. WINDOWED shows the game in a normal window. BORDERLESS keeps windowed presentation but removes the borders and expands to the largest screen size without changing your resolution. FULLSCREEN uses native fullscreen and adjusts the screen resolution to match your game settings.
The borderless cycle option controls how borderless fits into your display rotation. ATTACH adds borderless into the cycle. REPLACE swaps Fullscreen for Borderless Fullscreen. OFF keeps borderless out of the cycle entirely.
Disable Borderless optimization force-disables the driver-level borderless optimizations. Turning it on fixes the black blink that appears when leaving the game, which is most noticeable with multiple monitors, but you may see a large frame drop as a result.
FPS Overlay
The FPS overlay shows your frame rate on screen. Enabling advanced mode adds minimum FPS plus a 30-second average, which helps when judging performance. You can also display RAM and GPU usage beside the counter.
Position and spacing are adjustable through Fps Horizontal Alignment, Fps Vertical Alignment, Fps Horizontal Margin, and Fps Vertical Margin. A shadow box option adds an F3-style shadow behind the FPS text.
Fog and Sky
Fog can be removed per dimension: disable the fog option to remove it everywhere, or use the Overworld, Nether, and End toggles individually. The blue band effect can also be removed across all dimensions.
Custom fog values let you configure the fog start, the fog end, and the fog shape. For the Nether and the End, Nether Fog Brightness and End Fog Brightness adjust fog brightness when darkness is active.
Void Horizon Height sets the Y level where the dark void plane begins rendering. The value 63 matches vanilla behavior; setting it to -64 removes the half-dark sky you see below sea level, as in flat worlds.
A skybox option prevents clipping at very low render distances by enforcing the vanilla sky far-plane at 32 chunks.
Cloud height can be raised, and you can configure the exact height. This has no effect on happy ghasts.
Darkness
True darkness makes dark areas noticeably darker through stronger attenuation. You can enable it separately for the Overworld, the Nether, the End, dimensions without skylight, and other dimensions. Note the other-dimensions toggle is planned for replacement by a blacklist.
When darkness is on, Moon Phases can affect it, with New Moon Bright (min) and Full Moon Bright (max) setting the brightness range. A separate option disables sky, fog, and moon brightness entirely so blocks become the only light source.
Visual Tweaks and Performance
Several options reduce visual clutter or load. Chests and beds can be replaced with solid, animation-free block models, though the bed change may break modded beds and the chest change is ignored when EBE and Flywheel are present.
Text shadows can be disabled for a flat look, which raises FPS depending on how much text is on screen. Fast Language Reload reloads only language instead of all resources.
Chunk fade-in can be enabled so chunks fade as they load. Leaf culling reduces visible leaf faces of the same type, with adjustable depth.
Entity, monster, and block entity distance limits hide and stop ticking things beyond set horizontal and vertical ranges, sorted by your distance. Vertical limits should generally be lower than horizontal ones. Nametags can be disabled for players, entities, and items.
Particle toggles cover rain water-falling particles, rain floor droplets, block cracking, and block breaking.
The zoom feature can be turned on and activated with its hotkey; set that key in the controls menu. Mouse wheel sets the maximum zoom. If JustZoom or Zume is detected, Chloride's zoom is disabled.
JEI, REI, or EMI can be hidden until you search, with the search hint message optionally hidden too.
