How to Open Sodium Chloride Settings and Navigate Its Interface
Sodium Chloride is configured entirely through its own settings screens and hotkeys rather than through crafting or item use. This guide explains how to reach those screens and what you will find once you are inside them.
Opening the Settings
Sodium Chloride does not use an in-world item or a crafting recipe to reach its options. Its settings are exposed through the mod's interface, which you open from the game's settings area. Once the interface is open, options are grouped into sections, and each entry is either a toggle, a slider, or a submenu. Use the search field inside the interface to filter entries by name if you cannot find a specific option.
Several actions in the mod are bound to hotkeys instead of being clicked in a menu. Where an action has a hotkey, assign it yourself in the controls menu — no default key is assumed here. The Zoom feature, for example, is turned on in the settings and then activated with its corresponding hotkey, which you set in the controls menu. Zoom strength is adjusted with the mouse wheel up to a configured maximum.
Display and Window Options
The window mode setting offers three choices. WINDOWED shows the game in a normal window. BORDERLESS fills the maximum screen size without borders and without changing resolution. FULLSCREEN switches to native fullscreen and adjusts resolution to match your game settings.
Related to this is the borderless cycle behavior, which can ATTACH borderless to the cycle, REPLACE fullscreen with borderless fullscreen, or leave borderless OFF entirely. A separate toggle force-disables borderless optimizations at the driver level; this removes the black blink when leaving the game, which is most noticeable with multiple monitors, but it can cause a large frame drop.
Performance and Visual Toggles
The FPS overlay can be enabled, and its advanced mode adds minimum FPS plus a 30-second average. You can also show RAM and GPU usage beside the counter. The overlay's position and offset are controlled by separate horizontal and vertical alignment and margin settings, and a shadow box option gives the text the same look as the F3 debug text.
Other toggles include Fast Language Reload, which reloads only language data instead of all resources, and a text shadow option — disabling it flattens text style and can raise FPS depending on how much text is on screen.
For storage and furniture, chests can be replaced with solid, animation-free block models, and beds can be replaced with solid block models, though modded beds may break. Both are skipped when other optimization mods handle them.
Fog controls let you disable the blue band effect, disable fog generally, or disable it per dimension, and you can enable custom fog values with configurable start, end, and shape. Void Horizon Height sets the Y level where the dark void plane begins; 63 matches vanilla, while -64 removes the half-dark sky below sea level. A sky clipping option keeps the skybox intact at very low render distances.
Entities, Particles, and Darkness
Entity rendering can be limited by distance. Separate toggles and distance values exist for entities, monsters, and block entities, each with horizontal and vertical limits; the vertical value should generally be lower than the horizontal one. Nametag rendering can be disabled for players, entities, and items individually.
Particle toggles cover rain drops, rain splash on the ground, block cracking, and block breaking particles. A search field is available for particles.
Darkness options apply true darkness in the Overworld, the Nether, the End, skyless dimensions, and other dimensions, with per-dimension fog brightness controls for the Nether and End. Further options disable sky, fog, and moon brightness, tie darkness to moon phases, and set minimum and maximum brightness for new and full moons.
Finally, the JEI/REI/EMI item list can be hidden until you search, with an option to hide the search hint message; typing a space reveals the list without searching.
