Tuning the CIT Resewn Cache Refresh Rate for Performance vs. Update Speed

guide

CIT Resewn includes a setting that controls how frequently its CIT cache is refreshed. This single option sits at the center of a trade-off: a slower refresh rate buys you performance, while a faster one makes custom item textures update more quickly.

What the Cache Refresh Setting Does

The CIT cache refresh rate determines how often the mod rebuilds its cached CIT data. The tooltip explains the relationship directly: higher values give more performance, and lower values make cits update faster. There is also a REALTIME option, which removes the cache entirely so that items check for cits every single frame.

In practical terms, the cache exists so the game does not have to re-evaluate CIT rules constantly. Choosing a higher refresh value means that work happens less often, which reduces overhead. Choosing a lower value means the cache is rebuilt more frequently, so changes to CIT behavior show up sooner.

Choosing Between Performance and Update Speed

Your choice depends on what matters more to you:

  • If you want more performance, raise the refresh rate. The cache is rebuilt less often, so the game spends less effort on CIT checks.
  • If you want cits to update faster, lower the refresh rate. The cache refreshes more often, so item appearances respond sooner to changes.
  • If you want no cache at all, select REALTIME. With this option, items check for cits every frame. This gives the fastest possible updating, but it also means the per-frame cost is paid continuously.

REALTIME is the extreme end of the scale. It eliminates caching entirely, which is the opposite of the performance-focused approach. Use it only when immediate updates matter more than the overhead of checking every frame.

Other Configuration Options

The configuration screen, titled CIT Resewn Configuration, contains several other toggles that affect how CITs behave. These are separate from the cache refresh rate but live alongside it.

  • Should CIT Resewn load and inject cits from resourcepacks — this controls whether the mod loads and injects CITs from your resource packs at all. If this is off, CITs from packs will not be applied.
  • Mute loading errors — when enabled, CIT Resewn will not log cit errors.
  • Mute loading warnings — when enabled, CIT Resewn will not log cit warnings.
  • Allow broken paths in resourcepacks — this permits packs with illegal resource paths to load. The tooltip warns that it may cause issues, so treat it as a compatibility fallback rather than a default.

A Note on Broken Paths

If a pack contains broken paths, you may see a notice reading Contains broken paths. The accompanying message states that the pack contains broken paths and that support for it may be dropped in the future, and it advises contacting the pack author to remove the warning. This is a property of the pack itself, not something the cache refresh setting changes.

Operating the Settings

All of these options are adjusted through the mod's configuration interface rather than through crafting or in-game items. Open the configuration screen and change the CIT cache refresh rate to the value that matches your priority, then adjust the related toggles as needed. If any action in the interface is bound to a hotkey, use the corresponding hotkey (set it in the controls menu).

Start with a moderate refresh rate if you are unsure. Move it higher when you notice performance pressure, or lower it when you need CITs to reflect changes more promptly. Switch to REALTIME only when you deliberately want the cache gone and accept the cost of checking every frame.
