First Steps with Classic Pipes: Basic Pipe Crafting, the Mod Label, and the Pipe Slicer

guide

Classic Pipes begins with a small set of recipes that cover pipe crafting, the Mod Label, and the Pipe Slicer. Once you can make a few pipes and the tools that support them, you have everything needed to start building.

Crafting Basic Pipes

Three pipe types are available from simple materials. Each one follows the same shape: two of a metal or wood item placed with a single Glass.

Because the pattern is shaped, the arrangement of the ingredients matters. Keep the two planks or ingots together and the Glass in its proper position, and the recipe will produce the pipe you want. This gives you a straightforward progression: wood first, then copper, then iron as your resources allow.

The Mod Label

The Mod Label is made with a shapeless recipe. Shapeless means the ingredients can sit anywhere in the crafting grid, so you do not need to memorize a layout.

That single conversion is the entry point into label crafting. The Mod Label is also the ingredient that lets you move back toward a Tag Label, which is covered next.

The Tag Label

The Tag Label has two separate shapeless recipes, giving you two ways to obtain it.

The second recipe is the reverse of the Mod Label recipe, so you can convert between the two label types freely as long as you have the materials. The first recipe offers an alternative path that consumes a Name Tag and a Diamond Pipe instead.

The Pipe Slicer

The Pipe Slicer is a shaped recipe with four ingredients.

Arrange these in the correct pattern to craft the Pipe Slicer. Note that this recipe calls for a Networked Request Pipe, which is not among the basic pipes listed above, so you will need to obtain or craft one before you can build the Pipe Slicer.

Putting It Together

A practical order for your first session looks like this:

The recipes above are the foundation. Everything else in Classic Pipes builds on being able to produce pipes, labels, and the Pipe Slicer reliably, so it is worth crafting a small stock of each before moving on to larger builds.
