IV Inheritance, Everstones & Destiny Knot Guide
Individual value inheritance and nature selection in Cobbreeding follow precise genetic algorithms modeled after mainline Pokémon daycare mechanics. Through targeted held items such as the Destiny Knot, Everstone, and stat-specific Power gear, trainers can direct stat inheritance, preserve competitive natures, and selectively pass down cosmetic Poké Balls to newly bred offspring.
Default Individual Value Inheritance
Every Pokémon possesses six individual value stats that determine its inherent battle potential: Health Points, Attack, Defense, Special Attack, Special Defense, and Speed. When two parents produce an egg without holding specialized breeding items, the inheritance algorithm operates under baseline parameters:
- Inherited parent stats: Exactly 3 individual values are chosen at random from across the two parents. Each chosen stat selects either the father or mother value with an equal fifty-fifty chance.
- Randomized stats: The remaining 3 individual values are generated completely at random, rolling independently from zero up to the maximum possible value.
Because half of the stat profile is generated randomly under default conditions, producing offspring with flawless individual values across all six categories requires introducing dedicated breeding items into the daycare setup.
Destiny Knot Stat Transfer
Equipping either parent with a Destiny Knot significantly increases the volume of inherited genetic data passed to the offspring:
- Expanded stat inheritance: When either the male or female parent holds a Destiny Knot, the algorithm selects 5 individual values directly from the parents instead of the default 3.
- Single wild stat: Only 1 remaining stat is generated at random.
- Stacking limitations: Giving a Destiny Knot to both parents provides no additional benefit, as the item effect does not stack beyond 5 inherited stats.
When combined with two parents that already boast high individual values across multiple categories, the Destiny Knot ensures that five stats are faithfully preserved in the offspring, dramatically narrowing down the rolls needed to achieve flawless competitive stats.
Power Items for Guaranteed Stat Passing
Trainers seeking to guarantee that a specific flawless stat from a parent is passed directly to the baby can utilize the family of Power held items:
- Power Weight: Guarantees the direct inheritance of the holding parent Health Points individual value.
- Power Bracer: Guarantees the direct inheritance of the holding parent Attack individual value.
- Power Belt: Guarantees the direct inheritance of the holding parent Defense individual value.
- Power Lens: Guarantees the direct inheritance of the holding parent Special Attack individual value.
- Power Band: Guarantees the direct inheritance of the holding parent Special Defense individual value.
- Power Anklet: Guarantees the direct inheritance of the holding parent Speed individual value.
When a parent holds a Power item, the corresponding stat is locked into the offspring first and removed from the selection pool. The remaining inherited slots are then chosen from the other available stats, making Power items essential tools for securing crucial zero-Speed or maximum-Attack traits.
Everstone Nature Locking and Ball Inheritance
Beyond numeric stats, competitive preparation requires securing optimal combat natures and desirable cosmetic traits:
- Everstone nature locking: Giving an Everstone to a parent ensures that the parent nature is passed down to the egg. If both parents hold an Everstone, the offspring has an equal fifty-fifty chance to inherit either parent nature. Without an Everstone, the egg receives a completely randomized nature.
- Poké Ball inheritance: When breeding two Pokémon of different species, the offspring always inherits the Poké Ball of the female parent. If both parents belong to the exact same species, the egg has an equal fifty-fifty chance to inherit the ball type of either parent.
- Mirror Herb move learning: Leaving Pokémon together with a Mirror Herb allows egg moves to transfer between pasture partners without needing to breed entirely new generations.
