Companion Mod Dismount Settings for Shoulder Pets
Companion 🐕 includes a group of dismount options that control when a shoulder pet leaves your shoulder. These settings cover four situations: falling too far, taking enough damage, being underwater, and flying. Each one is a separate toggle or value, so you can allow some dismount triggers and block others.
Dismount Fall Distance
Dismount Fall Distance controls the fall distance at which your shoulder pet is dismounted. When the threshold is reached, the pet leaves your shoulder. If you want your pet to stay put during long drops, adjust this value so the trigger point is higher or lower depending on how you play.
Dismount Damage Threshold
Dismount Damage Threshold sets how much damage causes a dismount. Once the pet takes damage at or above the configured amount, it is removed from your shoulder. A low threshold means the pet drops off after minor hits; a high threshold keeps it in place through more punishment.
Dismount Under Water
Dismount Under Water decides whether your shoulder pet is dismounted when you go underwater. Enable it if you want the pet to leave your shoulder in water, or disable it to keep the pet with you while submerged.
Dismount While Flying
Dismount While Flying handles the flying case. When enabled, your shoulder pet is dismounted while you are flying. When disabled, the pet remains on your shoulder during flight.
Jumping to Dismount
There is also a manual way to get a shoulder pet off: jump in place to dismount shoulder pets. This works alongside the automatic settings above, giving you a direct action when you want the pet off your shoulder without waiting for a fall, hit, water, or flight trigger.
Related Pet Teleporting Settings
Several other Companion 🐕 options affect where your pets end up after they leave your shoulder or fall behind. Pet Force Teleporting If Follow Failed forces a teleport when following fails. Pet Force Teleporting When Chunk Unload forces a teleport when the chunk unloads. Log If Teleporting Failed writes a console message if a pet could not teleport because its chunk was unloaded. Player Respawn Teleporting Pets brings pets along when you respawn. Portal Teleporting Pets sends your pets and leashed animals through portals with you, and Portal Max Teleported Pets caps how many animals travel that way, where -1 means the maxEntityCramming gamerule value is used. Player Nearby Change Dimension Radius requires you to be within a set radius before a pet changes dimension. Always teleport horse keeps your horses close when they get too far away.
Other Companion Options
Better Sweeping Edge Effect is a separate combat-related toggle. Companion 🐕 also notes that pets never die, though their speed becomes very slow at extremely low health, and that pets can be hurt by players on your team. The mod's stated purpose is to protect your pets.
Operating These Settings
Open the mod's interface to change any of the dismount options. The four dismount settings are individual entries, so set each one to match how you want your shoulder pet to behave. For the manual dismount, use the corresponding hotkey (set it in the controls menu) if one is assigned, or simply jump in place as described. Automatic dismounts and the jump action can be combined, so a pet might leave your shoulder from a fall, damage, water, or flight even if you never jump.
