Compound V: What It Is, How It's Made, and What It Does
Compound V is a mod item that grants players superhuman abilities, and its only crafting use in the mod is as the starting ingredient for an antidote that reverses its effects. Everything below covers what the item is, the one recipe attached to it, and what happens to a player who uses it.
What Compound V Is
Compound V is a consumable item that gives the player powers. It sits at the centre of the mod's progression: you obtain it, you use it, and your character changes. The mod does not treat it as a decorative or trophy item — it is the thing you actually want, and the rest of the mod's content exists to support getting it and living with the consequences.
Because Compound V is a player-effect item rather than a block or a tool, it behaves like other consumables in your inventory. You carry it, you use it, and the result applies to you rather than to the world around you. That distinction matters for how you plan around it: there is no machine to build, no multiblock to assemble, and no ongoing fuel cost. The item is the whole interaction.
The Anti-V Recipe
Compound V has exactly one crafting recipe in the mod, and it does not produce more Compound V. It produces
Anti-V, the counter-item.
The recipe is a shaped or shapeless combination of three inputs:
Compound V
Fermented Spider Eye
Glistering Melon Slice
Place those three together in a crafting grid and the output is
Anti-V.
Two of the three ingredients are vanilla items you already know how to make.
Fermented Spider Eye comes from combining a
Spider Eye with a
Brown Mushroom and
Sugar.
Glistering Melon Slice is a
Melon Slice surrounded by eight
Gold Nugget. Neither is expensive in the late game, but both require you to have killed a Spider and found
Sugar Cane and
Melons, so the antidote is not something you can rush on day one.
The important structural point is that
Compound V is consumed to make
Anti-V. Crafting the antidote costs you the very item you might otherwise have used. If you are holding a single
Compound V and you turn it into
Anti-V, you no longer have
Compound V. Plan your stock accordingly before you commit.
What Compound V Does to Players
Using Compound V applies superhuman abilities to the player who consumes it. The effect is personal: it changes what your character can do rather than altering terrain, spawning entities, or modifying the world.
This is why the mod pairs the item with
Anti-V. A power-granting consumable needs a way back, and
Anti-V is that way back. The design is a two-way switch — one item turns the abilities on, the other turns them off — and both are reachable through ordinary crafting rather than through commands or config edits.
Practically, this shapes how you should approach the mod:
- Decide before you drink. Since
Anti-V costs a
Compound V to craft, you cannot freely toggle back and forth on a single item. Each reversal is paid for out of your supply. - Stockpile before you experiment. If you want to try Compound V and then return to normal, you need at least two: one to use, one to convert into
Anti-V. - Keep the vanilla ingredients on hand.
Fermented Spider Eye and
Glistering Melon Slice are the bottleneck, not the
Compound V itself, once you are producing it.
Working the Recipe in Practice
The crafting steps are short enough to memorise. Gather a
Fermented Spider Eye and a
Glistering Melon Slice, put them in a crafting grid with your
Compound V, and take the
Anti-V out.
If you are setting up a session where you intend to test Compound V's abilities and then remove them, the cleanest order is:
- Craft or collect two
Compound V. - Use one and observe what changes.
- Craft
Anti-V from the second one plus a
Fermented Spider Eye and a
Glistering Melon Slice. - Use the
Anti-V to return to your baseline.
That sequence never leaves you stuck with powers you did not want and no way to shed them, which is the single most common mistake players make with a one-way consumable.
Where Compound V Fits in a Playthrough
Compound V is a mid-to-late goal rather than an early-game pickup, because the antidote chain depends on
Spider Eye,
Brown Mushroom,
Sugar,
Melon Slice, and
Gold Nugget — a spread of mob drops, farming, and mining that takes time to assemble. Once those are in place, the mod's core loop is fully available to you: obtain
Compound V, use it for its superhuman abilities, and keep
Anti-V within reach for when you want your normal character back.
Treat the pair as a set. A player carrying
Compound V but no way to make
Anti-V has taken on an effect they cannot undo through the mod's own crafting, and the recipe is cheap enough that there is no good reason to be in that position.
