Pre-Hardmode Boss Summoning and Fight Tactics
King Slime
The King Slime is an oversized gelatinous foe that leaps much farther and higher than standard slimes. If you move too far away, it can vanish and reappear near you. Its attacks are straightforward, but its mobility makes it dangerous in open terrain.
To call it, use a
Slime Crown at any location or defeat 150 slimes during a Slime Rain event. The crown is made at an altar using 20 Gel and either a Gold Crown or Platinum Crown. This boss can be fought at any time of day.
When fighting, keep moving and avoid letting it corner you. Its teleport ability means you cannot simply outrun it, so maintain a steady distance and strike between its jumps.
Eye of Cthulhu
The Eye of Cthulhu is quick and aggressive, though its aim is surprisingly poor. Once its health drops low, its outer layer splits open to reveal a toothy maw. In this second phase, it charges recklessly, and its speed, power, and accuracy all rise sharply.
You can summon it with a
Suspicious Looking Eye, which works anywhere, but only at night. Sometimes it appears on its own at night after you receive the message that an evil presence is watching you. Craft the summoning item at an altar from 6 Lenses.
Fight it during the first phase by strafing and dodging its dashes. In phase two, expect more direct lunges and less telegraphing. Use terrain like hills or platforms to break its line of sight when needed.
Eater of Worlds
The Eater of Worlds is a colossal worm that lives in the Corruption. Killing any single segment causes the worm to split into two smaller worms, so you must destroy every segment to win. It is only considered defeated when no segments remain.
To summon it, use Worm Bait inside the Corruption biome or smash 3 Shadow Orbs found in corrupted worlds. It can be summoned at any time of day. Craft Worm Bait at an altar using 30 Vile Powder and 15 Rotten Flesh.
Because it splits, focus on one section at a time. Piercing weapons or area damage can hit multiple segments at once. Keep your distance from the head, as its bite is strong, and watch for it burrowing and resurfacing.
Brain of Cthulhu
The Brain of Cthulhu is a massive demonic brain tied to the Crimson. It starts invulnerable, protected by 20 floating eyeballs called Visual Neurons. Destroy all of them first. After that, the brain becomes vulnerable but summons 3 invincible illusions that fly around you while its true heart is exposed.
Use a
Bloody Spine in the Crimson biome or destroy 3 Crimson Hearts to summon it. This must be done at night. Craft the Bloody Spine at an altar from 30 Vicious Powder and 15 Vertebra.
In the first stage, prioritize killing the neurons while dodging their shots. Once the illusions appear, ignore them and aim for the exposed heart. The illusions are distractions, so keep moving and strike the core whenever you have a clear angle.
Queen Bee
The Queen Bee rules over all bees and can shake loose swarms of them from her body. A hive hangs beneath her, and it fires poisonous stingers at you. She also performs sudden diving charges. Never lure her out of the jungle. If her eyes turn red, end the fight quickly or retreat.
Summon her with an
Abeemination while in the jungle, or break the larvae found inside beehives. She can be fought at any time. Craft the Abeemination at an altar using 5 Honey Blocks, 5 Jungle Hive Blocks, a Stinger, and a Honey Bottle.
During the fight, stay mobile to avoid the stingers and dive attacks. Clear a wide area in the jungle so you have room to dodge. Bring gear that resists poison or heals over time, and focus on dealing damage between her charge patterns.
