Fishing Basics and Bait

Fishing in Confluence: Otherworld does not absolutely require bait, but adding it to your hook improves the quality of what you pull up. If you want better rewards from your time spent at the water’s edge, always keep bait on hand. The bait itself can come from a variety of sources, so check your inventory regularly to see what you have collected.

Crate Loot

Crates function as stackable loot bags. When you open one, you receive a randomized mix of rewards. The possible contents include potions, fishing bait, assorted useful items, coins, ingots, and even raw ores. Not all crates are equal—rarer crate types hold more valuable prizes. If you are aiming for high-tier gear or materials, focus on obtaining and opening the rarer crates rather than the common ones.

Fishing Rods

A basic fishing rod will never break, so you can always rely on it for simple fishing. However, upgraded rods give you better loot for the same effort. The Reinforced Rod is built from lead or iron bars and offers extra durability, making it a solid mid-tier choice. The Fiberglass Rod is not crafted—you must find it inside jungle chests located underground. The Beetle Rod comes from a specific source: Oasis Crates. If you want the best possible catches, work toward acquiring one of these upgraded rods instead of sticking with the starter model.

Bug Net and Golden Net

The Bug Net is used to catch insects, which you can then use as fishing bait. However, in the current version of the mod, there are no bugs to catch, so this tool has no practical use for fishing right now. The Golden Net is a step up—it can capture small animals like pigs and cows. But again, the same limitation applies: there are no bugs in the current version, so the net’s intended purpose is not yet available. Keep these tools in mind for future updates, but do not rely on them for your fishing setup at the moment.

Grappling Hook

The Grappling Hook is a terrain traversal tool that fires a chain to help you move across gaps or climb vertical surfaces. To use it, equip it in your accessory slot and press the F key to fire. When you want to let go, simply jump to detach. The hook comes in several forms, including gem hooks and other special variants. These different versions may offer varied chain lengths or behaviors, so experiment to find one that suits your movement style.

Rope

Rope is a simple but essential utility item. It can save your life when you are deep underground or in a dangerous fall. You can combine multiple strands of rope to create an enhanced version with better functionality. Always carry some rope with you when exploring, especially in caves or high-altitude areas where a quick escape route or a safe descent could make the difference between survival and disaster.

Practical Tips

To get the most out of fishing, pair a good rod with bait and target areas where crates are likely to appear. Since crates are stackable, you can collect many of them without filling up your inventory. Save your rarer crates for when you need specific resources, and open common ones freely for quick supplies. For exploration, keep a grappling hook equipped and rope in your hotbar—these two tools complement each other well for both vertical and horizontal travel. Even though the bug net is currently useless, it is worth keeping one in storage in case future updates add insects back into the game.
