Exploring Evil Biomes, Ash Lands, and Special Structures in Confluence: Otherworld

The Corruption and The Crimson

Two distinct evil biomes can appear in your world. The Corruption is a deep purple wasteland themed around decay and death. It spawns enemies that match this twisted aesthetic. The Crimson, by contrast, is a red, blood-soaked biome focused on physical infection, and its creatures are equally gory.

Both biomes share the same core mechanic. They generate naturally when the world’s evil biome is of the corresponding type. You can also create either one yourself by placing enough of its signature blocks. If you gather more than 256 corrupt blocks—such as ebony stones—into a cluster, that area converts into The Corruption. The same rule applies to The Crimson using scarlet blocks like scarlet stones. If you later remove blocks so the count drops below 256, the area reverts to its original biome.

These regions are hazardous. The Corruption is riddled with chasms and rifts, and it feels like a living cancer born from negative thoughts. It breeds monstrous, deformed beings that resent all healthy life. The Crimson has a darker origin: ancient peoples worshipped the scarlet force as a god and offered their own flesh. That mistake consumed them, twisting them into spreading agents of scarlet ambition.

Ash Forest and Ash Wasteland

The lower realm contains two ash-based biomes. Ash Forest is nearly all ash blocks, topped with ash grass. Ash plants grow here, letting you harvest ash and its crafted derivatives. You will also find flame flowers scattered about. The area feels gray and lifeless, yet new growth emerges from the ashes.

Ash Wasteland is a more barren version of the same region. Its terrain resembles the lower boundary wasteland, but it is a prime spot for finding ashes prison stones. These stones appear frequently and stand out clearly, so mining here is efficient if you need them. Flame flowers also grow in this wasteland. Both biomes carry a warning: the crimson world is dangerous, and the dark dust hides both treasure and peril.

Shimmer Lake

Shimmer Lake is a randomly generated structure, not a full biome. It features a large central pool of shimmering liquid, surrounded by several gem trees. The area is calm and beautiful, like a fragment of the night sky fallen to earth. The liquid starlight ripples gently, and a soft blue haze hangs over everything. The lake acts like a mirror reflecting an endless twilight. If you immerse yourself in it, you transform into a shadowy silhouette and sink into a dreamlike state, carried by the whispers of countless stars.

Heaven Island

Heaven Island is a floating structure that spawns above the world. It has two variants. The first, also called Heaven Island, is made of clouds wrapped around a solid landmass. This variant contains a sky hut with two guaranteed chests inside. The second variant, Paradise Lake, is built entirely from clouds and water. You can fish in this floating lake. Both versions float among the clouds, holding ancient secrets. The island version has a moss-covered stone base and a broken temple filled with hardened starlight. The lake version cradles hidden blue water that sustains quiet, flowing life. These locations are described as noble treasures and silent sanctuaries in the sky.
