Crafting Tweaks Guide: Main Controls and Settings Overview

guide

Crafting Tweaks is a Minecraft utility mod that adds convenience controls to crafting interfaces, letting you move items, compress materials, and clear a grid without dragging every stack by hand. This guide covers the mod's main in-game controls and the settings that shape how they behave.

Core Crafting Controls

The mod's central action is Right-click Crafts Stack. While a crafting interface is open, right-clicking the result slot produces a full stack of the recipe's output instead of a single item. This behavior is controlled by a setting described as crafting a full stack when you right-click the result slot in a crafting table.

A related control is transfer stack, labeled Transfer to Crafting Grid. This moves items into the crafting grid for you, so you don't have to place each ingredient manually.

There is also a compress key, used for the mod's (de)compress feature. This lets you compress or decompress materials directly rather than crafting each conversion by hand.

Compress and Clear Behaviour

Two settings adjust how the compress and clear features work:

  • compressRequiresCraftingGrid — Compress Requires Crafting Grid. When enabled, the (de)compress feature only functions while a crafting grid is available.
  • forceClearInfo — Drops items if necessary. This governs what happens when clearing the grid: items are dropped rather than lost when there is nowhere else to put them.

The compress feature also respects an exclusion list. This is a list of modid:name entries that the compress key will not craft. If you want a particular item left alone by the compress key, it belongs on that list.

One more option affects where the (de)compress feature can be used. Setting the relevant option to false allows (de)compress to work outside of crafting GUIs. Note that this only works if the mod is present on the server while you are in the player inventory.

The Vanilla Crafting Guide

Crafting Tweaks can also manage Vanilla's recipe book button:

  • hideVanillaCraftingGuide — Hide Vanilla Crafting Guide. This hides Vanilla's crafting book button instead of moving it. The reasoning given is that JEI is the better option, so hiding the button keeps the interface clean.
  • vanillaCraftingGuideOffsetX — Vanilla Crafting Guide Offset X. Sets the offset from the right when repositioning the vanilla recipe book button.
  • vanillaCraftingGuideOffsetY — Vanilla Crafting Guide Offset Y. Sets the offset from the top when repositioning the vanilla recipe book button.

Use the two offset options together if you prefer to keep the button visible but move it out of the way.

Enabling Buttons and Hotkeys

One setting decides how the mod's controls are available to you. It accepts four values:

  • DEFAULT — both buttons and hotkeys are enabled.
  • BUTTONS — only buttons are enabled.
  • HOTKEYS — only hotkeys are enabled.
  • DISABLED — everything is turned off.

For any action that is not bound by default, use the corresponding hotkey and set it in the controls menu. The mod does not assign keys on your behalf beyond what is described here, so check your controls menu to bind the actions you want.

Disabling Support for Other Mods

If another mod conflicts with Crafting Tweaks or you simply don't want the mod's features applied to it, there is a list for that. Add mod ids there for any mods whose crafting you wish to exclude from Crafting Tweaks support.

Quick Reference

  • Right-click the result slot to craft a full stack (when the relevant setting is true).
  • Use transfer stack to send items to the crafting grid.
  • Use the compress key for (de)compress, subject to the crafting grid requirement and the exclusion list.
  • Clear the grid with items dropped if necessary, per forceClearInfo.
  • Hide or reposition Vanilla's recipe book button with the guide settings.
  • Choose DEFAULT, BUTTONS, HOTKEYS, or DISABLED to control how buttons and hotkeys are enabled.
  • Bind unassigned actions through the controls menu.
