Conductor Automation and Crew Controls in Create Steam 'n' Rails
Conductor mobs steer automated trains, flip remote signals, and handle cargo storage across rail networks in Create Steam 'n' Rails. Rather than relying on static redstone clutches, engineers can employ these specialized miniature crew members to pilot locomotives and interface with mechanical devices from afar.
Constructing a Conductor
Spawning a conductor requires a straightforward construction process using basic railway components. The player starts by placing an
Andesite Casing block on solid ground. Once the casing is placed, holding any conductor cap and using it on the casing completes the assembly, transforming the inert block into a living conductor mob.
Conductor caps determine the uniform and operational affiliation of each crew member. Crafting a
Black Conductor's Cap requires one cap item and one black dye, or it can be assembled sequentially starting from wool. The mod offers 16 dyed cap colors matching the standard palette, allowing railway operators to color-code conductors for distinct rail lines, switching yards, and station hubs.
Remote Redstone with Conductors
Conductors provide unique wireless redstone capabilities based on line of sight. When a player wearing a matching conductor cap looks directly at a conductor, the crew member reacts to the player's gaze by toggling nearby redstone components.
- A conductor can press vanilla buttons mounted within its reach whenever an aligned player makes direct eye contact.
- A conductor can also toggle levers on adjacent blocks, reversing circuit polarity or activating track switches.
- Line-of-sight redstone activation strictly requires matching uniforms: a conductor will not trigger levers or buttons if the player is wearing a different colored cap.
This mechanic creates secure control panels. Players wearing a green cap can interact exclusively with green-capped yard switchers, preventing accidental switching or unauthorized route alteration.
Toolbox Transport with Conductors
Maintaining remote railway infrastructure frequently requires transporting supplies to distant outposts. Conductors can equip standard toolboxes to function as mobile inventory carriers.
- Placing a toolbox onto a conductor allows the container to retain full functionality while attached to the mob.
- Players working near the conductor can access the tools and materials stored within the equipped toolbox just like a stationary chest or toolbox block.
- Equipping conductors with toolboxes on train carriages ensures that construction supplies, spare track sections, and mechanical components travel alongside the locomotive.
Summoning Trains with the Conductor Whistle
Calling an automated train to an engineer's position utilizes the
Conductor Whistle. Crafting this hand tool requires one copper ingot and one brass nugget in a crafting grid.
To link the whistle, the player approaches a conductor positioned at the controls of an assembled train carriage and right-clicks the crew member. Once bound, holding and blowing the whistle issues an acoustic summons across the line. If the railway network contains a valid unobstructed route, the conductor will route the bound train directly toward the player's current track location.
