Crafting and Upgrading Dragonfly Armor from Iron to Netherite
Dragonfly armor is a craftable equipment set in the Critters and Companions mod, and this guide covers how to make each tier from iron through netherite. The armor follows a simple crafting pattern at each stage, with a final smithing upgrade to reach the highest tier.
Iron Dragonfly Armor
The base tier of dragonfly armor is made from iron. To craft
Iron Dragonfly Armor, place three
Iron Ingots in a horizontal row within a crafting table. This shaped recipe produces the armor piece directly. The exact arrangement is a straight line of three ingots, matching the standard pattern used for other armor types in the game.
Gold Dragonfly Armor
The next tier uses the same three-in-a-row layout but with a different material. Replace the iron ingots with three
Gold Ingots to craft
Gold Dragonfly Armor. This version offers the usual benefits of gold equipment, such as faster tool speed where applicable, though the armor itself follows the same structural design as the iron version.
Diamond Dragonfly Armor
For a significant durability and protection boost, craft
Diamond Dragonfly Armor using three diamonds. The recipe calls for the diamond gem tag, which means any item that counts as a diamond in the mod’s recipe system will work. Place three of these diamonds in the same horizontal line as before. This tier provides the strongest base protection before the netherite upgrade.
Netherite Dragonfly Armor
The final tier is not made through normal crafting. Instead, you must transform existing diamond armor using a smithing table. The
Netherite Dragonfly Armor recipe is a Smithing Transform, which requires three components:
- A
Smithing Template - A piece of
Diamond Dragonfly Armor - A netherite ingot (from the netherite ingot tag)
Place all three into the smithing table’s interface. The diamond armor piece is consumed and replaced by the netherite version. This upgrade preserves the armor’s enchantments and adds netherite’s superior durability and knockback resistance.
Upgrade Path Summary
The progression from iron to netherite is straightforward:
- Craft
Iron Dragonfly Armor with three iron ingots. - Craft
Gold Dragonfly Armor with three gold ingots if you prefer that tier. - Craft
Diamond Dragonfly Armor with three diamonds for the pre-netherite best. - Use a smithing table to turn diamond armor into
Netherite Dragonfly Armor with a template and netherite ingot.
Note that the gold tier is optional; you can skip directly from iron to diamond if you have the materials. The smithing transform is the only way to obtain netherite dragonfly armor—there is no direct crafting recipe for it.
Each armor piece follows the same three-material pattern, so you will need to repeat the process for a full set (helmet, chestplate, leggings, and boots). Plan your material gathering accordingly, as each piece requires three of the base material, and the netherite upgrade requires one netherite ingot and one smithing template per piece.
The smithing template is a consumable item, so you will need a fresh one for each armor piece you upgrade. Make sure you have enough templates and netherite ingots before starting the transformation process.
