Understanding ChoiceTheorem's Overhauled Village Pillager Outposts
ChoiceTheorem's Overhauled Village (CTOV) introduces new Pillager Outpost variants, each designed to fit specific biomes and world features. These outposts replace the standard monster spawning behavior in their respective areas. CTOV adds 14 such variants.
Badlands Pillager Outpost
The Badlands Pillager Outpost generates within badlands biomes. This outpost type alters the natural monster spawning within its generation area.
Beach Pillager Outpost
The Beach Pillager Outpost appears in beach biomes. It overrides the typical monster spawning in its vicinity.
Dark Forest Pillager Outpost
The Dark Forest Pillager Outpost can be found in areas that normally generate a woodland mansion structure. This outpost variant modifies monster spawning where it appears.
Desert Pillager Outpost
The Desert Pillager Outpost generates in locations where a desert village structure would typically form. It changes the monster spawning patterns in its area.
Jungle Pillager Outpost
The Jungle Pillager Outpost generates within jungle biomes. This outpost type overrides the standard monster spawning behavior in its generation area.
Pillager Outpost Mesa
The Pillager Outpost Mesa generates within badlands biomes. This outpost variant alters the natural monster spawning within its generation area.
Outposts keep their vanilla relationship to villages
Because this mod replaces vanilla village generation rather than adding a parallel structure set, the spatial rules between outposts and villages are unchanged. Whatever proximity behaviour you are used to still applies; only the buildings themselves are different.
That is also why none of the mod's 78 structures carries a spacing or separation value — they inherit vanilla placement instead of defining their own.
What that means for raids
Nothing about raid mechanics changes. The mod adds no items, no blocks and no recipes, so a raid on one of these villages plays out with vanilla loot and vanilla mobs, against unfamiliar architecture.
Scouting
Since the villages are larger and denser than vanilla in many biomes, the practical difference during a raid is sightlines rather than mechanics — plan for more corners than a vanilla village would give you.
Version note
The 1.21.1 build is 3.6.3 and the 1.20.1 build is 3.4.14. Both are structure-only, so nothing about outpost or raid behaviour differs between them — the only change across versions is which village builds are in the catalogue.
