Deeper and Darker: Reaching and Surviving the Otherside
Deeper and Darker expands the Deep Dark and adds a whole new dimension, the Otherside. This guide covers how to get there and the materials you will gather.
The Otherside
The mod's centerpiece is the Otherside, a new dimension full of sculk-themed content to explore. Reaching it revolves around the 
Ancient Compass, crafted from four 
Warden Carapace and a 
Compass — carapace that comes from the Deep Dark's guardian, tying the trip to the Warden itself.
Otherside stone and ores
Underground you will mine two dark stones, 
Gloomslate and 
Sculk Stone, each carrying its own ore variants. Their ores smelt normally — a 
Gloomslate Iron Ore or 
Sculk Stone Iron Ore blasts into an 
Iron Ingot — and if you have Create installed, its crushing wheels double the yield, turning a diamond ore into three 
Diamond.
Wood and building
The dimension has its own woods, 
Bloom Planks from a 
Blooming Stem and echo wood, giving full plank, stair, slab, door and sign sets for building in the Otherside's palette. From here, the next steps are the two smithing-upgraded gear lines — Resonarium and Warden — each covered in its own guide.
The integration layer, and what it costs on each build
Most of Deeper and Darker's processing is compatibility work for other mods' machines, so it only does anything when those mods are installed:
- Crushing — 50 recipes for Mekanism's crusher and 16 for Create's, on both builds
- Enriching — 48 recipes on both builds
- Cutting — 11 for Farmer's Delight on 1.21.1; on 1.20.1 that splits into 6 for Farmer's Delight and 4 for Create
- Sawing — 8 recipes, and this one really is 1.21.1 only
- Campfire Cooking and Smoking — 1 each, also 1.21.1 only
So the two builds are far closer than the category list suggests. Sawing and the two single cooking entries are the only genuine gaps on 1.20.1.
What is stable
Stonecutting is identical at 95 recipes, along with Smithing Transform at 18 and Blasting at 16. Crafting is 99 against 91 and smelting 23 against 22 — small differences.
The shape of the mod
224 pages across 137 blocks and 87 items, with a single structure. The block majority and the 95 stonecutting recipes mean much of the value is building material.
Where to start
Get into the dimension, gather stone, and cut it at home. The gear line runs through 18 smithing transforms, which is short enough to plan in advance.
