Configuring Diet's Death Penalty, Percent Loss, and Minimum Percent

guide

Diet's death penalty settings control how much of your diet progress is taken away when you die, and this guide explains how to adjust each of the three related options.

Death Penalty Method

The Death penalty method setting determines the style of reduction applied to every diet group when you die. Three modes are available:

  • AMOUNT — each group is lowered by a fixed percentage value.
  • PERCENT — each group is lowered by a share of whatever value it currently holds.
  • RESET — each group is returned to its default value.

Pick the mode that matches how harshly you want death to treat your progress. A flat subtraction behaves the same no matter how high or low a group already is, while a proportional cut scales with the current value, and a reset wipes progress back to square one.

Death Penalty Percent Loss

The Death penalty percent loss setting is the size of the reduction applied to all diet groups at once when you die. Its meaning depends on the method you selected: under AMOUNT it acts as a flat number subtracted from each group, and under PERCENT it acts as the fraction of the present value that gets removed. Under RESET this setting has no effect, since values simply return to defaults.

Minimum Percent After Death Penalty

The Minimum percent after death penalty setting puts a floor under the damage. No matter how large the loss is or how many times you die, diet groups will not be pushed below this percentage. This is useful if you want death to sting without erasing everything you have built up.

How the Three Settings Work Together

The method decides the shape of the loss, the percent loss decides its size, and the minimum percent decides how far the loss is allowed to go. For example, a proportional loss with a generous minimum keeps repeated deaths from draining a group completely, while a reset method ignores both the loss value and any floor.

Several other options in the same configuration affect diet values and the interface:

  • Gain penalty per food group — lowers the total gain by a percentage for each diet group eaten at the same time.
  • Decay slowdown per food group — lowers the total decay by a percentage for each diet group decaying at the same time.
  • Food quality overrides — lets you specify custom diet gain values using the format "modid:name;quality".
  • Generate food groups for unclassified items — assigns food groups to unclassified items based on their ingredients when enabled.
  • Hide tooltips for uneaten items — keeps food group tooltips hidden until you have eaten that item type.
  • Natural Regeneration — a toggle for natural regeneration.
  • Button appears in inventory — when enabled, adds a button to the Diet GUI inside player inventories.
  • Button horizontal position and Button vertical position — set the x and y coordinates of that inventory button.
  • Diet menu text color — sets the main text color of the Diet GUI, entered as an integer or hexadecimal value.

Managing Diet Values Directly

Beyond the death penalty options, the interface reports actions on diet groups as they happen. These include setting a group's value, raising or lowering a group's value by an amount, resetting diet values, pausing and resuming diet tracking, and clearing dietary effects. Each action is confirmed with a message naming the group it applied to. If a group cannot be found, an unknown diet group message appears instead.

You can also export your diet information. Exporting begins with a notice asking you to wait, and once it completes, the data has been written to logs/diet.csv.

Operating These Settings

All of the options above are changed through the mod's interface rather than through crafting. Open the relevant screen and adjust the value you need. For actions that are bound to controls, use the corresponding hotkey and set it in the controls menu if you have not already done so.
