Dragon Mounts: Legacy Ascend Direction Setting Explained
Dragon Mounts: Legacy gives you control over how your dragon gains altitude, and the Ascend Toward Your Direction toggle is the setting that decides which of two behaviours applies. Rather than a crafting recipe or an item, this is a choice you switch through the mod's interface, and it changes how the ascend action responds while you are riding.
What the Setting Changes
The toggle has two states, and each one produces a different result when you try to climb.
- enabled — the dragon will now Ascend Toward Your Direction. With this state active, climbing follows where you are looking, so the dragon rises along the path your view points toward.
- disabled — the dragon will now only Ascend on your Command. With this state active, looking upward does nothing on its own; the dragon gains height only when you give the ascend input yourself.
In short, the enabled state ties altitude gain to your gaze, while the disabled state hands that control back to a deliberate button press. Neither state removes the ability to climb — they differ in what triggers it.
How to Operate It
Open the mod's interface to reach the setting, then switch Ascend Toward Your Direction between enabled and disabled depending on the behaviour you want. The mod reports the change back to you with the matching message, so you can confirm which state is active after toggling.
Once you have made your choice, mount your dragon and use the ascend and descend inputs. There is an input to Ascend and a separate input to Descend. These are bound to hotkeys rather than to any menu button, so if you want to change which keys trigger them, do that in the controls menu. Assign the corresponding hotkey for ascending and the corresponding hotkey for descending there, and use those same keys while riding.
If the setting is enabled, expect the dragon to climb in the direction you are facing as you ride. If the setting is disabled, expect the dragon to hold its altitude until you press the ascend input, at which point it climbs on your command.
Choosing Between the Two
Pick enabled when you want climbing to feel tied to your view — useful when you are steering upward along a slope, a cliff face, or any route where you are already looking where you want to go. Pick disabled when you want level flight to stay level, and you would rather decide moment by moment when the dragon rises. Because the toggle is a setting rather than a one-time choice, you can switch it whenever your plans change and read the confirmation message to verify the new state.
Related Ride Controls
The ascend and descend inputs are the two actions you will use most while flying. Both are handled through hotkeys, and both can be rebound in the controls menu if the defaults do not suit you. The Ascend Toward Your Direction setting only affects the ascend side of that pair; descending is unaffected by which state you choose.
