Drip Sounds Config Guide: Opening and Adjusting the Settings
Drip Sounds is configured entirely through its in-game config screen, where you adjust how often drip particles appear, how far block particle effects reach, and which sounds play. There is no crafting recipe involved; every option is reached through the interface or a hotkey.
Opening the Config
The config screen is titled general and is labelled Drip Sounds Config. Open it using the corresponding hotkey, which you assign yourself in the controls menu. Because the mod does not define a fixed key, check your controls list and set a binding you will remember, then press it while in game to bring up the settings.
Understanding the Particle Options
The screen groups several related settings that control how blocks animate their particle effects.
- dripChance — This sets the probability that a drip particle appears when a block is randomly animated. The value of one in ten matches vanilla behaviour. Raising the number makes drips less common, so a larger value means you see fewer drips over time.
- blockAnimateRangeMultiplier — This multiplies the maximum distance at which block particle effects can appear. It covers drips, smoke, falling leaves, fireflies, bubble columns, and similar effects. It also influences the ambient sounds produced by some blocks, such as fire, lava, and portals. A value of 1.0 matches vanilla, and higher values let particles spawn farther from the player.
- blockAnimateCountMultiplier — This multiplies how many blocks update their particle effects each tick. Be careful here: the performance cost rises noticeably as you increase it. A value of 1.0 matches vanilla, and higher values mean more blocks produce particles. To hold particle density at the vanilla level, set this to the square of your range value — for example, a range of 2.0 pairs with a count of 4.0, and a range of 3.0 pairs with a count of 9.0.
When Block Particle Options Are Unavailable
If another mod already provides the same block particle behaviour, these options are disabled. The screen reports Block Particle options disabled due to a mod conflict: and names the conflicting mod. In that case the mod "Effective" already has this feature, so the block particle settings cannot be changed here.
Sound Settings
Two options control audio behaviour.
- useDripstoneSounds — When enabled, the mod plays the Dripstone water and lava drip sounds. When disabled, it falls back to the sounds used by older versions of the mod. Toggle this depending on which drip audio you prefer.
- soundCategory — This assigns the drip sounds to a sound category, letting you control their volume alongside other sounds in that group through your normal audio settings.
Practical Tips for Adjusting Values
Start from the vanilla baseline of 1.0 on both multipliers and adjust one at a time so you can tell what changed. If you widen the range, raise the count to the square of that range to avoid thinning out the particles. Keep an eye on performance when increasing the count multiplier, since it affects how many blocks are processed every tick. If you only want to change how frequently drips appear, adjust dripChance on its own rather than the multipliers.
Once you have set the values you want, close the config screen. Your choices take effect as you play, and you can reopen the screen with the same hotkey whenever you want to fine-tune the results.
