Locating the Lone Citadel in Dungeons and Taverns
The Lone Citadel in Dungeons and Taverns is an exceptionally rare subterranean stronghold generating beneath snowy terrain in frozen regions. While many overworld fortifications sit prominently across surface hillsides, this underground citadel carves directly into deep stone strata. Exploring it requires preparing for hazardous freezing temperatures and relentless stray archer garrisons.
World Generation and Rarity
The structure belongs to the snowy fortress placement pool, appearing only in biomes classified under the snowy structures collection:
- Biome Distribution: Generates specifically in vanilla cold biomes, including snowy plains and snowy taiga. If companion world generation mods are present, related modded snowy biomes may also qualify.
- Placement Frequency: The structure set operates with a spacing of 100 chunks and a minimum separation of 16 chunks.
- Generation Weight: Within its placement category, the standard surface Stray Fort holds a generation weight of 9, whereas the Lone Citadel holds a weight of 1.
This 1-to-9 ratio makes the citadel nine times rarer than standard cold fortifications. Furthermore, because it generates during the underground decoration stage rather than as a surface structure, players can walk directly above the citadel without spotting surface ramparts.
Locating the Structure
Because the citadel remains buried beneath layers of snow, dirt, and stone, finding one through random caving requires persistence across frozen biomes:
- Survey snowy plains and sub-zero taiga forests for cave openings, ravines, and fissures that plunge into deep stone layers.
- Check tavern loot chests in nearby villages, where local trade tables may offer exploratory leads into nearby wilderness sectors.
- In creative testing or administrative environments, players can pinpoint the nearest chamber using the command: /locate structure nova_structures:lone_citadel.
The locator command returns precise coordinates pointing directly to the central vault chambers.
Combat Encounters and Guard Forces
The citadel is garrisoned by undead marksmen adapted to freezing subterranean climates:
- Stray archers patrol balconies and long corridors, firing arrows tipped with Slowness that hinder tactical retreats.
- Narrow stone chokepoints and iron grate barriers force close-quarters combat while exposed to overhead arrow barrages.
- Equipping leather armor pieces prevents accidental freezing damage if corridors breach natural powdered snow pockets.
- Bringing shields, healing potions, and ample light sources prevents dark adjoining halls from constantly replenishing defeated hostiles.
Loot Tables and Mod Compatibility
Dungeons and Taverns features 97 architectural structures across dimensions without introducing custom items, new blocks, or unique crafting recipes:
- Chests discovered within the citadel draw directly from vanilla treasure tables, including enchanted tools, diamond gear, and golden apples.
- When running within larger modpacks, container tables automatically roll loot from active companion mods, rewarding adventurers with external materials, artifacts, or magic tomes.
- Defeating the underground garrison leaves behind an intact, highly defensible underground base suitable for renovation into an alpine outpost.
