Dynamic Surroundings: Install, Open the Config Menu, and Find Credits and Release Notes

guide

Dynamic Surroundings is configured entirely through its in-game interface and hotkeys, with no crafting involved. This guide covers opening the configuration screen, understanding when the game or world must be restarted, and locating the mod's source, credits, and release notes.

Opening the Configuration Menu

The main screen is titled Dynamic Surroundings Configuration Options. From here you can reach every settings group, including Diagnostic Options, Block Effect Options, Entity Effect Options, Compass and Clock Options, Music Manager Options, Mod Configuration Menu, Individual Sound Configuration, and the Diagnostic Overlay.

Some actions are performed with your normal movement and menu keys rather than a dedicated shortcut. To reach the project's source code repository, use the Source code repository entry. To read the sound resource credit and attributions, use the credits entry. For the list of changes in a given build, use the release notes action. Each of these is an on-screen control you activate with a click or the corresponding hotkey (set it in the controls menu).

Restart and Reload Requirements

Not every change takes effect immediately. The configuration screen flags three levels of requirement:

  • CLIENT restart required — the whole game client must be restarted.
  • WORLD restart required — the current world must be reloaded.
  • ASSET reload required — resources must be reloaded.

When assets are reloaded, the game reports Resources reload succeeded. Examine log for details. or Resources reload failed. with the reason. A successful configuration reload is confirmed with [$s] Reloaded configurations.

Diagnostic Options

This group modifies diagnostic behavior. It includes a toggle for debug logging of the mod and a bitmask for toggling various debug traces. Mod Update Chat Messages controls whether the chat window notifies you when newer mod versions are available. Another option filters tags in the diagnostic overlay: when enabled, only tags belonging to loader frameworks, Minecraft, and this mod are listed; when disabled, all tags appear. Register client side commands enables or disables client-side command registration, and disabling it may give the broadest support when running alongside other loaders such as Quilt.

Sound, Effects, and Music Settings

The sound system group covers streaming channel counts, the sound culling interval in ticks (0 disables culling), and cancellation of sounds a player will not hear. Ambient sound scaling multiplies the mod's ambient sounds, with a unit scale of 1/100, and the final volume stays within 0.0–1.0 regardless. Other toggles cover replacing vanilla thunder sounds, sound remapping, scary sounds, biome music in creative mode, and toast messages for music requiring attribution.

Block effect options include the scan range for block effects (changing it resets and rescans existing effects), steam columns, flame jets, bubble columns, fireflies, waterfall particles, waterfall sounds, and the water ripple render style. Entity effect options cover the maximum effect range, bow pull sounds, breath effects in cold biomes, player toolbar effects and block sounds, item swing effects, and brush sounds. Footstep accent options include global accents, armor accents, wet surface accents, and squeaky block accents.

Particle options let you suppress player potion particles in first person and hide projectile particle trails on critical strikes. The compass and clock group toggles the clock display above the hot bar and the compass heading above the crosshair, plus compass render style and scale. Enhanced sound processing covers reverb and occlusion, stereo-to-mono conversion, background worker threads, occlusion processing, and the reverb ray count, reflection count, and projection distance. Fog options cover all fog, morning fog, biome fog, and weather fog. The music manager group can replace Minecraft's music manager, which enables the /dsmm commands, and can reduce the wait between music plays.

Music Manager Feedback

Music Manager actions report their outcome directly. You may see Music Manager was reset, Music Manager was paused, Music Manager was unpaused, or the corresponding failure messages with a reason. If nothing is playing you will see No music is playing, and if the manager is unavailable, Music Manager not present (disabled or mixin failure?).

Source, Credits, and Release Notes

Use the Source code repository entry for the project's code, the credits entry for sound resource credit and attributions, and the release notes action for changes per build. The screen also notes embedded components: Cloth API (Fabric) and the OpenJDK Nashorn JavaScript Engine.
