Dynamic Trees: Growth, Rooty Soil and the Agents

guide

Dynamic Trees replaces static trees with ones that grow over time. This guide covers how growth works and the items that control it.

Only two crafting recipes

The mod registers 2 crafting recipes across 32 pages. Almost nothing here is crafted, because the content is a behaviour — trees that grow progressively from seed to maturity, expanding around obstacles instead of popping into existence.

Trees have their own growth rate and mature size, so a forest develops rather than appearing.

Rooty Soil is the mechanic to understand

Trees draw nutrients from rooty soil, which depletes over time. Bone meal raises its fertility, and doing so lets a tree grow past its normal maximum size.

That is the detail worth planning around: soil fertility is not just a speed control, it is a size cap you can lift.

Four brewed agents

The mod brews agents that act on trees, all built on one base:

  • Biochar Base Agent — the base every other agent uses, brewed from a Thick Potion
  • Burgeoning Agent — replenishes fertility and forces rapid growth until the soil dries out; the effect can be extended
  • Depletion Agent — drains the soil and stops growth
  • Mega Agent — grows a tree to gigantic size, but only works on trees with mega variants, which by default are spruce and jungle

The Mega Agent's restriction is the one that catches people out. It is not a general size boost.

Seeds and saplings convert

A dirt bucket converts a seed into a sapling and back, done in a crafting table by combining the bucket with either one.

Mega trees have their own seeds

Some species have a mega variant that is much larger than normal and grows from its own seed. The Mega Agent is the other route to one.

Coverage

Trees generate across almost every overworld biome by default, and the mod extends to the Nether's crimson and warped fungi. Apple trees are a fruit variant of oak that spawn in plains and, after maturing, grow apples over time.
