Enhanced Block Entities Guide: Baked Models for Chests, Signs, Bells, Beds, Shulker Boxes, and Decorated Pots

guide

Enhanced Block Entities replaces the standard rendering of several common block entities with pre-built, or "baked," models, which reduces the work your game does each frame and lets those blocks stay visible from much farther away. Every option below is toggled through the mod's settings interface, and hovering over any option shows a description of what it does.

How the Core Toggles Work

Each block type has its own switch that turns on the baked model version. Turning one on speeds up rendering wherever that block appears in large numbers, and it also extends how far away you can still see the block. If a block becomes invisible after you enable its toggle, that usually means another mod is conflicting with it, so switch that particular option back off.

  • Enhanced Chests covers chest models.
  • Enhanced Signs covers sign models and also controls how sign text is drawn.
  • Enhanced Bells covers bell models.
  • Enhanced Beds covers bed models.
  • Enhanced Shulker Boxes covers shulker box models.
  • Enhanced Decorated Pots covers decorated pot models. Turn this one off if pots vanish or if custom pottery patterns from other mods stop displaying correctly.

Smooth Lighting Options

Each block type also has a lighting toggle that applies smooth lighting and ambient occlusion to its baked model. These only work when the matching model toggle above is already on.

  • Smooth Chest Lighting
  • Smooth Sign Lighting
  • Smooth Bell Lighting
  • Smooth Bed Lighting
  • Smooth Shulker Box Lighting
  • Smooth Decorated Pot Lighting

Sign Text Rendering

Sign text distance is handled separately from the sign model itself, and it requires Enhanced Signs to be active. You pick one of several modes that decide how far from you sign text will appear:

  • Smart adjusts the limit on its own based on how many signs are currently being drawn.
  • All attempts text on every sign inside block entity render distance, which costs the most performance.
  • Most limits text to signs within 50 blocks of that distance.
  • Some limits text to signs within 30 blocks.
  • Few limits text to signs within 20 blocks and gives the best performance.

Christmas Chest Texture

The Christmas chest texture has three modes and needs Enhanced Chests turned on:

  • Allowed applies the texture only from December 24th through the 26th.
  • Forced applies it at all times.
  • Disabled never applies it.

Experimental and Compatibility Options

Experimental Chests, Experimental Beds, and Experimental Signs turn on early rendering features for those blocks, including particle textures that are generated to match resource packs.

Force Resource Pack Compatibility is for situations where blocks turn invisible while a resource pack is active. Do not combine it with packs built specifically for this mod. If problems persist after enabling it, report them.

Dump Example Resources writes the mod's default resources into a dump folder so resource pack creators have a reference to work from.

The settings are grouped under Block Entity Settings, with separate sections for Shulker Box Options and Decorated Pot Options. Any hotkeys referenced by the mod are assigned through the controls menu rather than being fixed.
