Enhanced Block Entities Config Guide: Purpose, Options, and Descriptions
Enhanced Block Entities is a performance-focused mod that replaces the animated models of several common blocks with pre-rendered versions, while also letting those blocks appear from much farther away. This guide covers what the mod does, how its settings are organized, and how to read the descriptions attached to each option.
Opening the Config and Reading Descriptions
The mod is configured entirely through its settings screen rather than through any in-game crafting or item. Open that screen to reach every toggle described below.
Once you are in the settings screen, move your cursor over any option and a description will appear. This is the intended way to learn what each toggle does, since the labels alone are often short. Hovering is the only control interaction you need to know: there is no separate help menu or documentation panel inside the interface.
The Overall Layout
The options are grouped by the block type they affect. A Block Entity Settings section holds the main toggles, and beneath it you will find dedicated groups such as Shulker Box Options and Decorated Pot Options for those blocks. The remaining toggles sit alongside these groups in the same screen.
Most block types follow the same pattern: a main toggle that turns the optimized model on, and a paired lighting toggle that only works when the main toggle is active.
Main Block Toggles
Each of these switches turns on pre-rendered models for one block type, which reduces the work needed to draw them and lets them remain visible at long range. If a block becomes invisible because of another mod, turn the matching switch off.
- Enhanced Chests covers chests.
- Enhanced Signs covers signs, and also enables smarter handling of sign text.
- Enhanced Bells covers bells.
- Enhanced Beds covers beds.
- Enhanced Shulker Boxes covers shulker boxes.
- Enhanced Decorated Pots covers decorated pots. Turn this off if decorated pots vanish or if custom pottery patterns misbehave.
Smooth Lighting Toggles
These options give a block type smooth lighting and ambient occlusion. Each one depends on its matching main toggle being enabled first.
- Smooth Chest Lighting
- Smooth Sign Lighting
- Smooth Bell Lighting
- Smooth Bed Lighting
- Smooth Shulker Box Lighting
- Smooth Decorated Pot Lighting
Christmas Chest Texture
A three-way choice controls the festive chest appearance. Allowed applies it only from December 24th through the 26th, Forced applies it at all times, and Disabled never applies it. Enhanced Chests must be on for this to matter.
Sign Text Rendering
This setting decides how far away sign text is drawn, trading visual range against performance. Smart picks a maximum distance automatically based on how many signs are currently being drawn. All attempts text for every sign within block entity render distance and is very heavy on performance. Most limits text to signs within 50 blocks of that render distance, Some to 30, and Few to 20, which is the lightest option. Enhanced Signs must be enabled.
Experimental and Compatibility Options
- Experimental Chests, Experimental Signs, and the matching experimental option for beds switch on early rendering features, including particle textures generated to work alongside resource packs.
- Force Resource Pack Compatibility is for cases where blocks turn invisible while a resource pack is active. Do not combine it with packs built specifically for this mod. If problems persist, report them.
- Dump Example Resources writes the mod's default resources into a dump folder so resource pack creators can use them as a reference.
