Ecologics: Enriching Vanilla Biomes

guide

Ecologics enriches vanilla biomes with new mobs, blocks, and items while keeping the vanilla style intact. The mod touches beaches, deserts, snowy and icy biomes, plains, and lush caves, adding new wood types, structures, and cooking options along the way.

Coastal Additions

Beaches now contain Coconut Trees, and fully grown coconuts can fall on you. While some coconuts break into food when they land, a Coconut Crab sometimes pops out instead. These crabs can withstand several strong hits thanks to their shell, fight back when attacked, and scurry away once the shell breaks. They drop Crab Claw, which can be cooked into food or used as shears.

Fully grown coconuts drop coconut slices, which can be eaten to remove all effects from the player like milk. Eating a slice leaves behind a Coconut Husk, which works as a bowl in recipes or can be composted. Seashells scatter along the shore and can be crafted into the small but mighty Sandcastle. A Sandcastle placed on top of turtle eggs hides them from zombies and other mobs, and the eggs still hatch inside it. A tropical-themed music disc can be found in buried treasure.

Desert Additions

Deserts now have Camels, which can be tamed and ridden by up to two players at once. They accept a chest for extra storage, eat dead bushes and cacti, and are bred using Prickly Pear. Prickly Pear plants sprout on top of fully-grown cacti. Eating the fruit raw slightly damages you, but cooking avoids that.

Pots spawn inside new Desert Ruins with loot inside. A Pot holds up to nine individual items, and the only way to see or obtain them is to break it. Chisel a Pot by shift + right-clicking with a pickaxe to cycle through designs. A comparator attached to a Pot emits a redstone signal equal to the items inside, and the Pot also emits a 1-tick signal each time you put an item inside. Desert Ruins generate around the desert.

Snowy Additions

Snowy and icy biomes now contain Penguins. They spawn in huddles, and being near a huddle of at least four grants a regeneration effect. Penguins hunt fish, pick up the item, and eat it. Breed them with fish, and the Penguin keeps the egg by its feet until it hatches. When a baby grows into an adult, it sheds its feathers as an item, which can be used to brew a Potion of Sliding that makes you slide on all blocks as if they were ice.

Watch your step in icy biomes, because patches of Thin Ice are scattered around. Jumping on Thin Ice cracks it, and standing on cracked Thin Ice breaks it and drops you into the water below. Build chilly creations with Snow Bricks and Ice Bricks.

Plains Additions

The plains biome now has its own unique tree, the Walnut Tree. Walnut leaves drop Walnut, which can be eaten. Squirrels spawn in the plains. Feed a Squirrel a Walnut to make it trust you, and a trusting Squirrel picks up sapling items and plants them nearby. Breed trusting Squirrels with honeycomb. The plains remain the empty field you know, just with a few additions to enliven the area.

Lush Caves Additions

New Azalea Log and Flowering Azalea Log replace the oak wood on the vanilla azalea tree. They can be crafted into planks, which are used to craft the other wood decoration blocks, matching the moss and lush cave biome. An Azalea Flower can be obtained by using shears on flowering azalea leaves, bushes, or logs. Moss Carpet is now stackable like snow layers, and lush cave surfaces are decorated with Surface Moss, which can be placed on the sides of blocks up to three times, increasing the moss with each layer.

Wood and Cooking Recipes

Azalea Planks can be crafted from Azalea Log, and Azalea Wood from four Azalea Log. The planks build out into Azalea Boat, Azalea Boat with Chest, Azalea Button, Azalea Door, Azalea Fence, Azalea Fence Gate, Azalea Hanging Sign, Azalea Pressure Plate, Azalea Sign, Azalea Slab, Azalea Stairs, and Azalea Trapdoor. Coconut Planks follow the same pattern for Coconut Boat, Coconut Boat with Chest, Coconut Button, Coconut Door, Coconut Fence, Coconut Hanging Sign, and Coconut Sign.

Coconut Husk crafts into a Bowl, and Coconut Husk plus six Beetroot makes Beetroot Soup. Four Brick plus two Terracotta makes a Carved Pot. Prickly Pear cooks into Cooked Prickly Pear by smelting, campfire cooking, or smoking, and Crab Claw cooks into Crab Meat the same three ways. Stonecutting turns Ice Bricks into Ice Brick Slab, Ice Brick Stairs, and Ice Brick Wall; Seashell Tiles into Seashell Tile Slab, Seashell Tile Stairs, and Seashell Tile Wall; and Snow Bricks into Snow Brick Slab, Snow Brick Stairs, and Seashell Tile Wall.
