Embers Rekindled First Steps: Ember Basics, Core Machines, and Early Tools

guide

Embers Rekindled first steps center on learning how ember moves through your early setup, then building the machines and tools that make that flow useful. The mod's opening progression is short but specific: you need a way to activate ember materials, a way to emit ember, and a hammer to shape what you gather.

Ember Activation

Ember Activation is the first process to understand. It has 4 recipes, and the inputs include Ember Crystal, Ember Crystal Cluster, Ember Grit, and Ember Shard. Each of these four materials is processed through Ember Activation into something further along the chain, though the outputs are not listed here. For an early guide, the important takeaway is that these four items are your starting feedstock. Collect what you can of them and run them through activation before expecting to build anything more advanced.

The Ember Activator

The Ember Activator is the machine that performs Ember Activation. Its recipe is shaped and requires Copper Ingot x6, Iron Plate x2, and a Furnace. This is a reasonable early target: copper and iron are common early ores, and a furnace is something you already need for basic survival. Once assembled, the Ember Activator becomes the anchor of your early ember processing, turning the crystal, grit, and shard materials into their activated forms.

The Ember Emitter

The Ember Emitter is the second core machine. Its shaped recipe calls for Copper Ingot x2, Iron Ingot x2, and a Caminite Plate. Compared to the activator, this is a lighter build, but the Caminite Plate is the piece that stands out. You will need to produce caminite before the emitter is possible, so plan your early resource gathering around that requirement. The emitter's role is to emit ember, giving you the second half of the basic ember loop alongside the activator.

Tinker's Hammer

The Tinker's Hammer is an essential early tool. Its shaped recipe uses Iron Ingot x4, a Lead Ingot, and two wooden rods from the `#forge:rods/wooden` tag. Lead is not the most common early material, so locating some is a priority once you have basic iron working running. The hammer is worth building early because tool access tends to gate everything else in a progression mod, and this one is clearly positioned as a starting implement.

Dawnstone Ingot

Dawnstone Ingot is another early material to be aware of, and it has two recipes. The shapeless recipe converts a Block of Dawnstone directly into a Dawnstone Ingot. The shaped recipe combines Dawnstone Nugget x9 into one Dawnstone Ingot. Having both routes means you can work from either direction: break down a block if you have one, or accumulate nuggets if that is what you have on hand. This gives you flexibility in how you handle dawnstone as you progress.

Putting the Early Game Together

A sensible order emerges from these facts. Start by gathering copper, iron, and lead, and make sure you have a furnace and wooden rods available. Craft the Tinker's Hammer once you have lead, since it is your early tool. Build the Ember Activator to process Ember Crystal, Ember Crystal Cluster, Ember Grit, and Ember Shard. Produce a Caminite Plate so you can build the Ember Emitter and begin emitting ember. Keep Dawnstone Ingot production in mind through either the block or nugget recipe as your material stocks allow. That covers the ember basics, the two core machines, and the essential early tool you need to move forward.
