EMI Recipe Trees, Batch Crafting, and Defaults Explained

guide

This guide covers recipe trees, default recipe assignment, batch crafting, and how EMI resolves ingredient choices through its interface.

Recipe Trees and Their Purpose

A recipe tree displays the full sequence and base material cost needed to produce a chosen item. You can pan and zoom around the tree display. If you haven’t set a tree yet, EMI will tell you that none is selected and may suggest viewing a random one. To start, use the action to view a recipe tree for the item you are examining. The tree shows each step and what raw ingredients are required at the start.

Assigning Recipes to Tree Nodes

Each node in the tree represents a crafting step. Left click a node to open a selection of recipes and assign one to that step. If you hold the shift key while clicking, EMI will automatically choose a recipe based on what you currently have in your inventory. Right clicking a recipe node folds it temporarily to reduce clutter; holding shift while right clicking clears the recipe from that node entirely. The initial state of any tree is governed by the default recipes you have set.

Setting Default Recipes

You can make a recipe the standard choice for an item across all trees. Click the recipe default button next to a recipe to assign it globally. The interface will confirm that this is now the default recipe for that item. To undo this, click the same button again to remove it as the default. For a single tree only, click a recipe’s output to assign it just for that tree’s context.

Batch Crafting and Resolution

When you are ready to craft, EMI can calculate how many batches you can make. The batch size is adjustable—scroll to change it, and hold shift while scrolling to jump by increments of 16. You can choose to craft a single batch or all possible batches at once. EMI will indicate whether you can craft none, some, or all of the requested batches. If you want to minimize leftover materials, use the action to get minimal leftovers. During the crafting process, any materials you still need to collect are shown on screen, and synthetic favorites are added to the sidebar to mark incomplete steps.

Resolution refers to EMI picking which ingredient goes into a specific slot when multiple options exist. Click the clear resolution button to reset those choices. When a recipe tree is being resolved for an ingredient, EMI will show that status. If you attempt to fill a recipe but EMI is not running on the server, you will see a message that the recipe cannot be filled without server support.

Crafting Actions and Inventory Handling

EMI provides several distinct crafting actions. You can craft one item to your inventory, craft all possible items to inventory, or craft one item to your cursor. In cheat mode, you can spawn one item, a full stack, or a single item to cursor without requiring ingredients. There is also an action to delete the stack currently on your cursor. If the crafting grid is too small to fit all ingredients, EMI will warn you. Similarly, if you lack the necessary materials, it will state that there are not enough ingredients to craft.

Additional Recipe Tree Controls

The recipe tree view has a button to take a screenshot of the current tree. You can also toggle the display to show the total cost per batch. When crafting from a tree, EMI will add synthetic favorites to the favorites sidebar, which represent incomplete steps and can be used to continue crafting later. The tree progress itself is shown in the tree view. If a workstation does not support the recipe you are trying to use, EMI will inform you that the current workstation is incompatible.
