Enigmatic Legacy Enchantments and Curses: Sharpshooter, Slayer, Wrath, Torrent, Sorrow, and Hungering Knowledge

guide

Enigmatic Legacy adds several enchantments and curses that expand how weapons, armor, and books behave. Some boost damage in specific situations, others punish you for taking hits, and one book exists only to consume enchantments from other items.

Crossbow and Melee Enchantments

Sharpshooter is a crossbow enchantment that raises the damage dealt by arrows fired from the weapon. Each level adds 40% to the crossbow's base damage. It works similarly to Power on a bow, but only applies to arrows — firework damage is unaffected. Sharpshooter cannot be combined with Multishot or Piercing.

Slayer belongs to the same group as Sharpness, Smite, and Bane of Arthropods, so it cannot coexist with any of them on the same weapon. It boosts damage dealt to anything classified as a monster by 1.5 per level. That figure is lower than the 2.5 per level Smite provides against undead, but monsters cover a much broader range of enemies than undead or arthropods do. A weapon carrying Slayer also briefly slows any monster it strikes.

Trident Enchantments

Wrath applies only to tridents and raises the damage the weapon deals to any target, whether you swing it in melee or throw it. Each level adds 1.25 damage, which is a larger boost than Sharpness gives. Wrath shares its slot with Impaling and Torrent, meaning a trident can carry only one of the three.

Torrent also applies only to tridents, but it targets specific creature types: those immune to fire, such as Blazes or Zombified Piglins, and those harmed by water, such as Endermen. Against a matching creature, each level adds 2.5 damage, matching what Smite does against undead. Like Wrath, Torrent conflicts with Impaling and with the other damage enchantment in that group, so only one may be applied.

The Curse of Sorrow

Sorrow is an armor-only curse. Every time you take a hit while wearing a piece of armor with this curse, you receive a set of debuffs whose severity scales with the amount of damage taken. Each cursed armor piece has roughly a one in ten chance to trigger this effect on a given hit. Items bearing Sorrow can turn up among the ancient treasures you find while exploring. Such an item may serve as fuel for a Scroll of a Thousand Curses, though whether that use justifies keeping the curse around is a decision left to you.

Hungering Knowledge

Hungering Knowledge is a book with no enchantments or abilities of its own, but it seeks to acquire some. When brought into close contact with an enchanted item, it absorbs that item's enchantments and stores them the way an ordinary enchanted book would. The original item is left whole and undamaged — nothing about it changes except the loss of its enchantments. Once the resulting book has been produced, it behaves exactly like any other enchanted book and can be used in the usual ways.
