Enigmatic Legacy Relics: Spellstones, Amulets, and Their Powers
Enigmatic Legacy adds a set of relics whose abilities range from passive protection to total mastery over life and death. This guide covers the major spellstones and amulets, along with the unusual items tied to them.
Spellstones
Spellstones differ sharply from the other relics you might find. They act as both the origin and the containers of mighty elemental magic, granting whoever holds them abilities far past ordinary limits. No method exists today for making new ones. Their story reaches back to the earliest instant of creation, when wild forces poured into what had been cold, empty darkness. These forces clashed, consumed one another, and produced utter disorder, and out of that disorder the spellstones formed, holding the chaos inside a shape stable enough to endure for ages beyond counting. After so long, finding one in the wild is no longer possible. An ancient civilization appears to have tracked down and taken every last one before vanishing, leaving only the ruins of what they built. The stones now rest among those ruins, waiting for a bold explorer to claim their power.
Heart of Creation stands out even among spellstones. Its strength seems far too great to have ever been meant for a demigod to carry. It shields you from nearly every environmental danger, and while hostile creatures will still notice you and land hits, none of them can end your life as long as the stone stays with you. You may come right to death's edge, but nothing can shove you past it. The same stone also offers one of the most devastating ways to deal destruction, calling down wither-like skulls that also seek out any creature you look at, wiping out most targets you decide to strike.
Enigmatic Amulet
The
Enigmatic Amulet was already in your pockets the moment you arrived, with nothing to explain how it got there. A bright stone sits inside it, shifting and glowing from within as though it were alive. On the back is a carved inscription holding only a single name. Attempts to study its structure or reproduce it have gone nowhere; it seems to come from somewhere outside this world entirely. Wearing it makes you somewhat stronger than usual, and it holds a second property. If your body is destroyed and can no longer hold your soul, the amulet tears open a rift into an unknown space, pulling in everything you would have dropped, itself included. Where you died, you instead find a key tied to that rift, called the
Extradimensional Vessel. This object cannot be destroyed and ignores every force except one of godly nature, a fraction of which you happen to hold. It hovers motionless until you approach and interact with it, at which point it drops into your hand and shatters, spilling out everything the hidden space held.
Amulet of Ascension
The
Enigmatic Amulet is not one of a kind; many other demigods across time and space receive one too. Several variations exist, each with its own color and powers, though what decides the color you get is unclear. Using the power inside the
Heart of the Cosmos, you can reshape your amulet into a far greater form, the
Amulet of Ascension, which grants the abilities of every color at once.
Testament of Contempt
The
Amulet of Ascension can be pushed further still, at the price of its purity. The mass of flesh called the
Heart of the Abyss willingly attaches to the amulet and twists it into a form beyond description. The elegant stone at its center becomes a glossy, onyx-like eye that watches you and everything around you with unsettling intent.
Unholy Grail
The
Unholy Grail turns up lying among nameless ruins, mixed in with junk as though it were nothing. It stays perpetually full of water no matter how much you drink, but the liquid carries a foul, ashen flavor and is corrupt and toxic. Drink enough before noticing, and you end up either gravely ill or dead shortly after. It works better as a trophy than a tool.
