Arcane Scrolls, Cursed Scrolls, and Curse Items in Enigmatic Legacy
Arcane scrolls, cursed scrolls, and the items tied to the Seven Curses form a connected system in Enigmatic Legacy, and each piece rewards a different kind of attention. Some scrolls are made, one is found, and the curses themselves are a resource you learn to turn in your favor.
Arcane Scrolls
An arcane scroll is not just a written page. Beyond the blank scroll and the usual writing supplies, putting one together normally calls for a few arcane ingredients, and those extras are what give the finished scroll an actual function rather than mere existence. Once made, a scroll can be carried the same way you carry other accessories.
Scrolls do not do much for the image of a fearsome, all-powerful mage, particularly since books have existed for a very long time. That hardly matters, because a well-designed scroll can serve a wide range of practical purposes. Curiously, a scroll meant only to hold writing is hard to find, even among the oldest surviving literature, which suggests that such a plain design was never as obvious as it seems.
An empty scroll can be crafted, and while it has little use by itself, it is the starting point for every arcane scroll you will make.
Curses and Cursed Enchantments
Curses sometimes appear in a form resembling an enchantment, with a few important differences. Once a curse is attached to an item, there appears to be no way to remove it while keeping that item. Ordinary enchanting should not produce these curses by accident, but items carrying them can be found while exploring ancient ruins and dungeons.
The effects differ from case to case, and none of them help you — every cursed enchantment places a real burden on the item it inhabits. Normally the best you can do is avoid such gear. With the
Ring of the Seven Curses equipped, however, you gain ways to work with curses and even profit from them that are closed to everyone else.
Thousand Curses
The Thousand Curses scroll is infused with the concentrated wickedness of the Twisted Heart. Each curse borne by your equipment increases your striking power, your speed at breaking blocks, and every form of healing or regeneration you have. One or two curses barely register, but if you are willing to accept more, the total can grow into tremendous strength.
Equipment that counts toward this includes armor, whatever you hold in either hand, and wearables such as charms and rings — including the scroll itself while it is equipped.
Darkest Scroll
The
Darkest Scroll turns up among the treasures of dangerous Bastions. These rolls of black-stained parchment look unremarkable at first, but they carry an unknown dark magic that feels oddly similar to what empowers the
Ring of the Seven Curses. That magic sits dormant inside the scroll, raw energy waiting to be awakened and used. It may be that the
Darkest Scroll can serve as a base for crafting new and stronger arcane scrolls.
Pact of Infinite Avarice
The
Pact of Infinite Avarice is another relic that draws on the strength of the Seven Curses. Its main effect clouds the minds of creatures you trade with, causing them to misjudge the true worth of a deal in your favor.
Piglins are affected most, given their weakness for gold. The scroll cancels out the Second Curse and leaves them neutral toward you, the way they behave toward anyone carrying enough golden gear. It also makes bartering roughly twice as rewarding on average, so a single trade can yield anywhere from the normal amount to three times as much. Villagers are influenced too, though less strongly, with a steady discount of 35 on every trade.
You also gain a small chance of an
Emerald appearing when you kill any living creature, along with +1 Fortune Level to help you collect more riches when you head into the mines. Keep your greed in check and you will be fine.
Devoured Malignancy
While bearing the Seven Curses, you can draw power from curses bound to ancient gear you find, and even create such curses yourself using the
Enchanter's Pearl. Moving a curse from one item to another is possible, but separating a curse from the enchantments on the same item is not. Devoured Malignancy changes that, offering a way to pull curses, and only curses, off any piece of your equipment. It is not cheap, but it works.
Destruction of the Ring
Getting rid of the
Ring of the Seven Curses is difficult because the ring is far more than its physical form. Its corruption reaches into your soul and binds your immortal being to the ring and to everything it grants. That link persists even through death, and the ring can draw on you to repair itself and hold itself in place. Extreme heat is its one apparent weakness, but the bond means it cannot be destroyed for good without destroying you just as permanently.
After defeating the Wither and harvesting the essence of its corrupted soul, a way around this appears. The
Unholy Stone manifests your connection to the ring in a fragile physical form as long as you keep it close. With the stone, travel to the Nether and search its twisted landscape until you find a deep ocean of lava. Hold your breath, release it one last time, and leap in, letting the molten rock consume you. Done correctly, the ring melts and is gone forever.
The cost is real: the ritual works only because the
Unholy Stone exposes the part of your soul tangled with the ring, and that part must be destroyed first. Make the sacrifice, and you will never see that cursed ring again — unless, unlikely as it is, your world held more than one.
